Rambo in Space, essentially.) Alien was a horror movie in space. Aliens was an action movie in space. But they’re both pretty effective at what they’re there to be. Unlike, say, Alien 3 or Resurrection (this is where a pukey smiley would go if we had one). ---

I saw it this past weekend. It was a beautifully crafted mess. The acting was mostly very good. The visuals of the film - the special effects and the cinematography both - were excellent. However, the story was muddled to the point of incoherency, and the infantile handling of the theme of faith was an insult to believers and nonbelievers alike. On the plus side, the heroine did run around in her underoos for a very generous amount of screentime. ---

I have to say I agree with those who felt it was a beautifully made mediocre film. Really the story isn’t anything we haven’t seen before…in dozens of Alien sequels and knockoffs - A science team travels to a distant planet to discover the secrets of life, the universe and everything, financed by some megacorporation. They land in the middle of a horrific shit-show and, it turns out the megacorporation has it’s own motives (and they are probably ulterior). ---

I’ll give it a moderately-enthusiastic thumb’s-up. While I have to agree with the lousy reviews, all _I_ wanted was a sci-fi space adventure with monsters, so it delivered in that department for me. I got a strong Frankenstein vibe on multiple levels…the damn creations just never work out the way they’re supposed to! ---

If you like the rational parts of your brain, coherent storytelling, and not wanting to cockpunch Ridley Scott every 20 seconds, never, ever go see Prometheus. However, if you want to see a fetid pile of nonsensical garbage, go see Prometheus. ---

To be fair, a lot of people share his opinion of the movie, and there’s nothing wrong with presenting a counterpoint to my OP if you feel strongly that the movie is not worth seeing. Well, since this is here now, I’ll join in. The film sucked. Bad. It was nonsensical and cliched at every turn. I didn’t have enough invested in wanting to like it such that my disappointment made me want to punch people in the taint. However, after sitting through this movie I wouldn’t have had the energy left even if I had wanted to. ---

Bad things happened to them, then something wonderful happened: the movie ended. At least it was kind of cool to look at, I’ll give it that. ---

I’m generally a fan of Ridley Scott and **Blade Runner** is one of my favorite films, but I didn’t think **Prometheus** was very good. I was excited about the movie before it came out but when I saw some of the negative reviews I was afraid it was going to be disappointing. I was right. ---
