Best user name/post combo ev- well, in the past few hours.

I’m trying to picture what those would look like, and I think they’d look great. But only for certain women. I don’t think many women in their 50s could pull it off.

I’m not sure about dickeys (I hope not!), but I’ve seen something similar in stores recently, but way better.

They’re meant to go under low-cut sweaters & tops, but they’re basically just the boob part of a camisole with straps. Some are even just regular bras with the camisole part attached. Not shelf bras, underwire.

I need those. I have some clothes that require boob-hideage for work, but I hate how camisoles either roll up or show at the bottom.

ETA: Like [these](http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=328087&CategoryID=40580). But I’ve seen non-lace ones, too.

ETA again: actually, the ones I liked are just short ones you pull over a bra, but I’ve seen ones that are just one piece, bra and all.

> For me, I guess, a lack of creativity in dressing means that you might lack creativity in other areas.
> :dubious:

I understand your point but I think you’re underestimating how banal men’s clothing can be. If you find a shirt that is made well and fits well, you can get it in 5 colors, a few nice end-on-end semi-solids, a few stripes, and a few checks that will all be the same shirt. What do you get for shopping around? A possible poorer fit on the downside and on the upside? No chest pocket? A different collar? Different placket style? French cuffs? The shirts just aren’t going to be much different. If you try to buy different shirts from the same brand they’re liable to be cut from the same pattern whether you realize it or not.

I really like winter because I can wear sweaters where there’s a bit more opportunity for variety, but it’s still so limited compared to what women wear. The other day my administrative assistant was wearing a black sweater with what looked like glitter all over it. I didn’t exactly love the look but it really wasn’t bad. Men are just so far from being able to have that kind of range. There’s no male equivalent of wearing glitter all over your shirt.

Although, for what it’s worth, I’m not saying it’s ok for every button front shirt you own to be exactly the same shirt with different shirting material. I’m just saying buying different styles of the same shirt is an OK way to build your base.

A friend of mine who is, I believe, 25 recently told me he needs a tuxedo for a formal and that he wants to get a brown one. I feel a little bad about my reaction because I made fun of the idea pretty thoroughly before I realized he wasn’t joking. I guess it’s kind of a cliche to say you “thought someone was joking” because their idea was so bad, but I literally thought he was suggesting it as a joke and that making fun of it was ok.

The worst part is he still thinks he can ‘pull it off’. :smack:

Chocolate brown tuxes are trendy right now and they can look pretty good.

I don’t recommend pairing them with bright blue since that makes it too trendy, but a dark brown can look nice.

Are you mostly talking about dress shirts? The yeah, there’s not much different there than the cuffs and collar, and possibly the cut. I’ll be buying nearly all of my dress shirts from Express in the near future, because I can trust the cut and they have some great colors. And they have some of the best ties I’ve ever seen.

As for casual shirts, we have a lot more flexibility. I like to find unusual patterns, asymmetrical cuts, weird textures, etc. Some stores are great for that. Lucky Brand is one of my favorites.

I agree. I like it, on both the men linked, but it does look more like something you’d wear to a fancy business meeting or dinner, than a formal event where the women wear long poofy or slinky dresses.

Are there people would find a shirt like that and then buy it in multiple colors? If so, then yetch, I definitely didn’t mean to argue in favor of that.

Bases? I understand bases. I give you bases.

I’m talking about self-imposed uniforms. He literally wore the same shirt, just in a selection of colors, and the same cut of jeans with the same style of sneakers EVERY DAY.

(and the same white boxers, but I didn’t want to be tmi.)

OK, back up - completely off-topic, but I won’t be able to sleep until I find out…but why is your hubby _calling you_ at 7am?

I used to think that I had no fashion sense. I actually think that my sense of fashion probably isn’t as bad as others (cough cough **the ex witch** cough) made out. I still generally trust my wife tho - she’s got fashion sense to beat the band - to the point of, on a weekly basis she gets stopped by people asking where she bought such and such or so and so. Maybe it’s something that women do a lot to complete strangers, but I had never seen it before until I met my wife.

I do this sometimes. I find a sweater I like so I buy it in both red and teal. I find a bra that looks nice and supports me properly and I buy 3 different colors. I find a shirt that looks great on me so I get 2 with different designs. I end up with a lot of variety but I do have lots of semi-matching items. It saves me from putting on my favorite sweater next year and wishing I had another because it just looks awesome on me.

I myself suffer insomnia, and wouldn’t wish it on anyone else; certainly couldn’t live with myself if I thought a comment of mine _caused_ said insomnia! So let me explain: my hubby works in a different town than we live in (more than three hours away); he’s trying to transfer, but for now, he’s only home on weekends. So he’s not where I am, on work mornings. 😉

Amusing, related anecdote: when I found I was pregnant with our oldest, we weren’t married yet. But my (now) hubby wanted to live with me, so he could support me, financially and emotionally, and bond with our (now 22YO) daughter.

The night he moved in, I was at work. I had cleared out half the closet and two dresser drawers for him. He called me at work to ask where he was supposed to put the rest of his clothes. I was honestly 😕 . All he ever wore was the same couple pairs of Levi’s, the same plaid flannel shirts, the same solid-color T-shirts, the same athletic socks, the same tighty-whities, you get the picture.

Who knew he had a _bunch_ of clothes, they just all _looked_ the same??:smack::eek:

I knew you would understand!

95% of the time, I even knew what color he was wearing by what day it was. The one day he had on a golf shirt instead of his uniform, I almost fainted.

I’m in the reverse situation, in that I’m a man who loves to dress well, and once dated a girl with no fashion sense whatsoever. When we got off the plane for the first day of our two month backpacking expedition across Western Europe, she showed me what she’d be wearing just about every day: a green dress with white polka-dots, orange sneakers, and a gray/red ski coat. I nearly died.
