Add in a quarter-million dollars in debt from medical school that’s collecting interest, spending 3-8 years at $45K (while in some cases having to make payments on that debt), etc., I wouldn’t do any field in medicine for the money.

Depends what you consider terrible pay. The ICU nurses at the hospital make more than I do. Subspecialists make 2-3 times as much. It’s all relative.
