I pretty much assumed that IRL you were probably limited to what was in the prison cafeteria or (possibly) whatever someone else might pay for you to bring in.
I just thought it would be a more fun thread if we just pretended there were no limitations. I was curious to see what kinds of fantasy meals people would concoct.
So far, I think it’s been interesting to not that most people would seem to go more for comfort food than fancy stuff.
Well, if what astorian said is correct and those sorts of things would be my only options, then I’d at least ask for a mix. Howzabout chicken spaghetti with garlic bread and a ceaser (would that be possible?) salad? Of course, I suppose dessert would be pretty limited, but if ice cream were ok, out of what would be available, I’d probably go for the most exotic from the selection… like a banana split with nothing but vanilla (French, hopefully) and strawberry topping. Yum.
Now if anything were possible, I don’t know if I could decide between as much boiled shrimp as they’d serve me, raviolla stuffed with mushrooms, gourmet pizza, anything French (see?) or chicken fajitas with queso and sauce. Decisions, decisions. :o
Well, since it is fantasy, I would love the food from Babette’s Feast [except the specific vintages of wine, I would go for a good sommelie’s replacement suggestions.] http://www.babettescafe.com/feast.html
Damn! I just realized that the real reason I’m a law abiding citizen… I can’t give up my right to eat yummy food!!!
Appetizer: Two wedges of spanikopita, two stuffed grape leaves with lemon sauce. A small Greek salad with a few kalamata olives & good sheep’s milk feta cheese. Green grapes.
Main course (assortment): One fried chicken breast from Popeye’s. Creamed spinach with lemon juice. Small bowl of jambalaya with chicken and shrimp served with Green Tabasco. Slice of turkey breast topped with sage stuffing and turkey gravy. Small dollop of sour cream mashed potatoes sprinkled with crumbled bacon.
Dessert: Small piece of tirimisu and a small piece of dense dark chocolate cake topped with a chocolate covered strawberry.
All courses to be served with a fresh tall glass of unsweetened iced tea. Many Marlboro Lights 100s between courses.
Probably either fried chicken or a cheesburger with bacon and mushrooms. Nothing fancy. Some Humpty Dumpty BBQ chips (available only in Atlantic Canada I believe) to top it off then I’m off.
A bucket of chicken wings from back home in Buffalo (I’d find a way to finish it), extra hot, with copious amounts of blue cheese and a six-pack of the Beer of the Moment - currently Sierra Nevada porter.
Let’s start with a small green salad. Then rare rib-eye steak and Maine lobster. Baked potato with lots of butter and home made rolls with more butter. Some nice wine with the dinner, then for desert apple pie with ice cream and coffee.
Now I’m ready to be fried by Yellow Mama. (That’s the inmate’s affectionate name for Alabama’s electric chair).
I’d have to ask them to let me into the kitchen for preparation of my own final repast.
Garlic marinated prawns, together with boneless chicken breast chunks marinated in lime, cumin and cilantro. Portobello mushroom caps, chunks of red and green bell pepper and sweet onion, all skewered and grilled, kebab-style, served over a bed of long grain and wild rice.
A bottle of Bully Hill New York Niagara.
Dessert would be my own secret cheesecake recipe, flavored with Amaretto, topped with liquid Amaretto, slivered almonds, and pie cherries.
Make enough for myself, the guards, and everyone else on death row. Yum.
My grandmother’s baked chicken, dirty rice*, stuffed artichokes*, and Brussels sprouts. Red wine cut with 7-up, and apple pie for desert, made with apples from the tree in the yard.
*Kids, when your grandparents try to teach you how to make a dish that you love, pay attention to what they are telling you, and write it down. If you don’t, you may never experience anything even close to her cooking again, because nobody makes it as good as your grandmother.
A couple of Maine lobsters with clarified butter. Crabmeat stuffed mushrooms. Jumbo shrimp scampi. Lots of beer. And some New York cheesecake for dessert.
