Probably not. Although it’s true that I am currently woefully underpaid for my skillset, it’s not just about the money - I am also in a position where departmental changes are seriously undermining the resources (mostly human resources) I need to be able to competently perform my job.
I fully expect this to come to a crisis at some point, which will reflect badly on me as a professional. I’m doing something about this.
Yes, but then I’m not that far from retirement age. I don’t have that many years left to advance myself otherwise, at least at work. Double my pay, and I can live comfortably on it and still have time for my other, less profitable, pursuits.
If you asked me that when I was in my 20s, I’d say, “Not on your life.”
15 years to retirement, I recently decided I’ll stay until then barring an amazing job offer out of the blue from somewhere else.
So short answer, I’d stay. Extra money would pay off studen loans, buy a roomier house withina few blocks of where I currently live, then buy a weekend getaway house in the country.
Not by a long shot but then I only make $400 per month while I finish up my last year of school. And I’m only 34 for I have at least 30 years to go before I can retire.
I like my job, and I’m planning to stay in it until I retire (assuming no layoffs or anything like that). So I would happily do it for twice the money. I’d use the extra to save, pay off some bills, and buy fun things.
Well, due to my husband’s inheritance (thanks in-laws!) I could actually “retire” now, but my employer’s health insurance is too good to forgo, what with my husband’s illness. I’m staying until I’m ready for early retirement. If they offered me double my salary and didn’t change the benefits, I’d still stay until early retirement. If they mess up my benefits, I’m outta there.
I’d put away as much as possible in pre-tax retirement (I pretty much do that now, though I have a bit of catching up to do, due to taking time off last year for husband surgery/recovery), but I don’t have to worry about early withdrawal, it can sit until I"m 67 or whatever.
