I have always felt that I-24 is more of a N-S route than an E-W one, (and thus should be an odd numbered road), but it’s a coin flip as to which is closer to the truth.

I used to live near Port Huron, whose Interstates are exactly the opposite of this. I-94 goes more or less north-south and I-69 goes almost exactly east-west.

I grew up in DFW, but closer to I-30 than I-35 (still close though). My closest is I-35 while at school in Oklahoma.

Sitting here, I can hear I-24 if the traffic is busy. The closest exit to my exit is the one for 840.

I can almost see I-40 from my home. I’m about twenty minutes from I-65 and I-24 and about five minutes from TN840 (aka National Guard Parkway, but the name hasn’t come into common usage yet).

I just found [All About Interstate Highways](http://www.interstate-guide.com/interstate.html) which appears to be a source for all sorts of Interstate Trivia.

One I found especially useful is:

> [@](#):
>
> It is not true that one mile of every five miles of Interstate highway must be straight enough to allow planes to land on it. This is an urban legend.

Other major topics covered include:

Numbering Themes
Interstate Highway System Trivia
Interstate Standards
Shortest/Longest Routes on System
Highest/Lowest Points on System
Underground Tunnels
Tunnels Underwater
Suspension Bridges
Cable Stay Bridges
Tied Arch Bridges
Drawbridges
At-Grade Intersections and Traffic Signals
Tolled Interstates
“First” Interstates
Other Trivia

And, of course, there’s [Interstate Highway System From Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Highway_System)

That will take you straight down the East Coast all the way to Florida in two or three days depending on how eager you are to get there. I also live close to the Massachusetts Turnpike which is also I-90. That one makes me a little nervous because it means that I could put the cruise controlon, fall asleep, and wake up in Seattle 2500 miles later.

It would appear that your location is special because, according to [Extremes In Length](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Highway_System#In_length)

> [@](#):

> Longest: 3,020.54 mi (4,861 km): I-90 from Seattle, Washington to Boston, Massachusetts.
> Longest (north–south): 1,920 mi (3,090 km): I-95 from the Canadian border to Miami, Florida (not counting the gap in New Jersey to be completed in 2014).

I live by a section of I-10 that’s N-S (west side of San Antonio), but the road itself is an east-west road.
