>
> Did the little guy survive? When my oldest son was born my brother and I would look over the kids on display in the nursery window and our attention was drawn to a pair of twins who had been a little premature. One was huge, in the 13 pound range (is that reasonable? – I can’t be sure) and the other was tiny (in the 3 pound range). We calculated that the mother was still hauling a load – a big one – with their combined weight. But we nicknamed the big one either Boomer or Bomber and kept watching him for a few days. The big one didn’t make it but the little one did.
>
> One cool sidetrack from this sidetrack is that when my son was in grade school we learned that two of his classmates (both girls) had been in that nursery at that same time. Nothing came of that in terms of their sharing any special bond but it was still neat to us parents.

Yes, he did survive. he had to have 5 surgeries to fix his heart, which was about the size of the pad of my little finger. he was as strong as an ox; a little tiny, leggo ox.

Yes, a 13 lb baby is possible, usuallly because the mom has gestational diabetes. It’s likely the larger twin was getting most of the nutrients. It’s called a vampire twin. (But never to the mamas)

> I’ve been around people like that and it’s hard to locate the common topic. What did you fall back on to have a conversation? Or did you?

They’re in their late 50s, perhaps even 60. She had a vague notion of who LZ was, but not a clue about their music. When I said I raised my kids on Boston and Queen and other 70s-80s rock, she got a really vague look on her face. I don’t remember where the convo went after that, but it was fairly boring. I know a lot of people our age went from rock n’ roll to country or to jazz fairly early on. Bands like LZ or ZZ Top or even Aerosmith were just too radical for them. I remember friends who couldn’t get past 50s music and were horrified by Hendrix and the like.

When my oldest son got married the first time, it was to the daughter of a religious, straight-laced family. When my son had the DJ put on Bohemian Rhapsody, I was out banging it with him and his frat brothers. The father walked over to me afterwards and asked “You actually KNOW that music?” “Yup; who do you think introduced him to it?” We never spoke again.

That sounds right for that baby. I don’t remember how I found out about that but we may have even asked. All three of my kids were Caesarean so my wife was in the hospital a few days each time and we had time to know details about the other babies and their parents, although I don’t recall any other unusual situations like Bomber’s.

It would take some really peculiar mother to be able to handle having her baby called a vampire! Especially if it died. 🙂

My guess is that you didn’t miss just a whole lot. When you say “first time” did the religious aspect cause friction or was it the music? 😃

I do frequent educational lectures to audiences of very disparate ages, and it often comes up that I’ll make a cultural reference and those over 40 will get it, and those under will not. If I’m not paying attention and keep making the same mistake I’ll have to tell the youngsters “Wiki it” several times in the same lecture.

Of course, you can jump right in, with or without soles. Just curious if you did those tasks in order at the same time. To me the flute seems out of place. 🙂

I like that. Instead of Google, just go right to the source. Maybe your crowd might be more into Yahoo! Answers? 😉

In case y’all don’t check the “Who Posted?” list as often as I do, we just had our 40th player join the gang. None other than **koeeoaddi** hit that mark. Exactly half have posted once and the other half more than once.

And if you didn’t already know it, you can use that list and click on individual names and go straight to that person’s profile.

If you’re on one of the pages that shows the list of threads, (such as the forum homepage, or the “New Posts” list), over where it shows the number of posts you can see that that’s a “hot link” so just click it and a list of everybody who has posted pops up. The usernames are also hot links to their profiles.

Yes, I’m obsessed with such stuff. For me, it’s fun. But then I used to love burning ants with a magnifying glass or turning flies into walks.

She was a piece of work. Had him listening to country music within a couple of years (the kid was a metal head when he met her) and not speaking to other family members. Thank god he divorced that bitch and married someone decent.

Perhaps I missed a consensus on a group name, but [here](http://articles.courant.com/2012-04-25/features/hc-shea-boomers-0425-20120425_1_geezer-middle-age-classic-cars) is an article with a few more in addition to Pheezers/Freaky Geezers…

There hasn’t been a formal consensus, certainly not a vote as such, so (at least in my mind) it’s still in the works. My wife points out that maybe for the women things that refer to farts and anal emanations are not appealing.

If there were some way to have a poll where we could limit participation to just this group we could get a good overall opinion bordering on a consensus. Minus that, maybe just everybody who cares posting with a preference – one already mentioned, one in your list, or one made up for the purpose – would give us a feel for where to go next.

Glad you had the idea to mention those more appealing and more exalted options. Thank you, **jasg**! BTW, how do you pronounce that? 🙂

After a moment’s thought I had an idea that would keep the voting in-house. If **jasg** would accept the honor of being Vote Counter, we could all PM **jasg** our preference and he (or is it she, sorry for the asumption) could post the results after 2/3 of the crowd (or some reasonable number) had responded.

What say, **jasg**?

If that will fly, we can all contribute to a list of options for everybody to select from.

Another wrinkle: **jasg** PM’s everybody the list we come up with. Each recipient picks one name on the list and replies to **jasg**. That way nobody gets left out unless they choose not to play. And **jasg** will know when the voting is over.

There must be an even better method I haven’t thought of. Anybody?

Good ideas! Is that -gee hard or soft G? Jee or ghee? Since you had jazz- I assume it’s not jazz-jee, right?

You won’t believe all the combinations I was considering, including yass-guh as in Yasgur’s Farm 🙂
