If You're Scotch-Irish...

I’d like to add this tidbit. The Scots-Irish musical heritage is what blended with African-American musical heritage to give us the roots of what now moves us musically. It’s the best world groove!

TBeblen comes close to describing the character of the Scotch-Irish as presented in Leyburn’s “Scotch-Irish A Social History” -needing to move AT LEAST twice before settling down, tough and durable, and good fighters for our various wars.

Eight Kirkpatrick brothers moved to Canada in the 1830s, still listing themselves as “Scotch” (“Irish” is crossed out, these handwritten records are on microfilm, available via inter-library loan.) on the 1871 census in New Brunswick.

Some carried the first or middle name of Wesley and many were Methodists - a recent conversion, I’d guess.

A few of the first generation born in Canada moved to Maine and that was where my dad was born.
