I’m so lucky to have good friends, and I’ve got a boyfriend that I adore, despite the ups and downs, and we’ve been together for seven months 🙂 I’m now working TWO jobs (some of y’all may remember when [I was a paycheck away from homelessness](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=667270&highlight=advice) about this same time last year) and doing decently well, thank you. And still living in NYC and moving into a new, nicer, cheaper apartment! ---

Congratulations! It’s great to hear you’ve beaten the Big C! I’ve been audited by the IRS since last February. This week they sent me back the money they should’ve given me since then, and apologized for the inconvenience. And just in time for Christmas. ---

Yay for all the good news! Mine is that I have a new job with a 10%+ raise, starting in a week and a half, and all my friends at my current job are stoked that I get this transfer and advancement. And a few of them think I may be the domino for people trying to escape our awful manager. ---

Congratulations, **Zoe**! That’s wonderful news! I don’t have any good news per se. I suffer from depression, but I’m in an upswing lately, so even though I can’t point to any one thing and say “there’s my good news” things are still looking positive. Which is strange because December is usually stressful for me. ---

Congrats to all for the awesome good news. It’s absolutely enchanting to read about, truly. I don’t really have good news to share. Except to say the first half of my life had me convinced there was a God in heaven who’s sole job was to knock me down again, whenever I’d manage to get back up onto my knees from the last disaster. I truly, deeply, sincerely believed - no, knew, love and happiness would never ever come for me. Eventually I made my peace with that and just got on with it, whatever may come. And yet here I am at middle age, and somehow the dreams I dared not dream seem to have all come true. Though we be poor as church mice, currently carless, bank owns most of our small home, and likely always will, not a day passes that I don’t announce to anyone within earshot that we are surely rich beyond all measure. Perhaps most others would not see it as so, but I cannot help but celebrate it daily. It seems to please those around me that someone should see such abundance where others never could. They never fail to smile and laugh at my surprise at being so blessed. I guess it’s like most of my life, it’s not much, as good news goes, but I could not be more pleased with my great good fortune! ---

Congratulations, **Zoe**! That’s great news indeed! Mine pales in comparison, and is rather insignificant, relatively speaking. But on Monday night, at the local sports bar where I go to watch Monday Night Football, I won the weekly raffle for an NFL jersey. It is the Dallas Cowboys’ Dez Bryant’s number 88; and though I’m a 49ers fan normally, I’m quite pleased with it. Other than that, my good news is that–well, life is good. I love my job, my house is warm and secure in the cold and snow we’ve been having, and my cats are happy and healthy. My Christmas plans are in place, and I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends. So, all is well, which is always good news. But as I said, **Zoe** , in comparison to your news, mine is kind of small potatoes. Congratulations again! ---

My good news? I had been fighting a lot with my spouse. We just couldn’t seem to get along. Then recently I changed medications for an unrelated health problem. Unbeknownst to me, that new medication also had a secondary effect of “mood stabilization”, whatever that means. Well, what it means to me is no more fighting with my spouse. Apparently some of the fault for our disagreements was actually **MINE**! 🙂 J. ---

Congratulations, Zoe! Good medical news is the best. My good news is I just hired a full-time salesperson. My company celebrated its 1-year anniversary on November 30. Business is going better than projections and we are going to end the year in a much better cash position than we thought we would. Everything is dovetailing wonderfully. I found out Wednesday that two of my former students are now flying for the same airline. They had connected via the airline’s internal website, and while searching for names, also discovered that one of \*them \*had a former student flying there as well. So not only are my students flying airliners, my student’s students are doing so as well. And for icing on the cake, recently got an email from a student from _25 years ago_, who I taught at a little grass field. The email contained pictures of him in his 747 cockpit. Makes my feel like a grandpa somehow. 😃 ---

Our house is conditionally sold and we found out yesterday that the seller fixed all of the issues on the house we bought in Edmonton, so conditions lifted! We start the Big Move on 5 January! ---

I have passed all the preliminary blood tests to donate a kidney, and am only one pound away from the weight I need to be for the surgery. I still have another round of tests to go, but things are looking good! ---

My good news today: update on my next foster dog, who was confiscated from her owner who was intentionally starving her to death because she is gun shy. She is good with cats, heartworm NEGATIVE!! and being spayed this week. She has been named Holly (which, BTW was the name of my first Gordon Setter many years ago!) and should be on her way to me soon! I can’t wait to give this little girl a hug!
