I'm 24 and I just found out I need glasses

Bah. You people with your near-perfect vision pretending to be short-sighted just draw attention away from us genuine mole-people.
My contact lenses are now -10.5 / -11.0, and I think my specs are something like -11.75 / -12.25

With a prescription as low as yours, glasses should be pretty affordable providing you don’t go overboard on the designer frames, and you’ll probably notice a significant reduction in tiredness, headaches etc when driving, watching movies, etc. Seriously, don’t try to do without, give your eyes a treat. After you have got used to them you’ll wonder how you managed without.

Definitely get the glasses. My eyes weren’t that bad when I got my first pair in early junior high, but I was amazed when I wore them outside for the first time. Trees a couple hundred feet away were no longer amorphous green blobs but made up of individual leaves! I couldn’t believe how much sharper everything looked. Of course, being a vain teenager I wore them as little as possible outside the home until my parents deemed me fit for contacts.

I’m 21 and have been wearing glasses since kindergarden. Until 19 I had to get a new pair every year. In addition to new lenses this meant new frames since I couldn’t go without them long anough for new lenses. I’m nearsighted and farsighted. 20/200 in one eye and 20/220 in the other. I tried wearing contacts, but in 3 months I was only able to put them in without help twice. I’m not a candidate for LASIK, but have signed up for a varient on cataract surgery where contact lenses will be surgically implanted in my eyes.

I vote that you get 'em and wear 'em. You’ll see better, I guarantee. Besides, if I’ve gotta wear 'em I want company! Go to someplace like Sears that has a $99 special or something like that, get a pair that you like and try them out. If you don’t like them (which I think you will), no harm, no foul and you’re not out a lot of money. If you find they really help your eyes, save up and buy an “upgraded” pair if you’re a fashion junkie.

Not being sure about getting glasses, if you have vision problems, is like not being sure about getting car insurance, if you have a car.
