# I'm actually doing something in the kitchen that isn't cooking

Do you have a GFI receptacle on the outlet nearest the sink? I know it is code in Canada (any outlet within 3 ft, IIRC) and I’m pretty sure you don’t want to get fried if you accidentally drop the toaster in the sink… 🙂

This house was originally built in 1934, and the latest addition was decades ago. Knob-and-tube wiring, fusebox… The new cabinets/counter are not near the sink.

I’d love to bring the house to code, but I’m guessing it would be hideously expensive.
