I’m not opposed to the whole ice water bucket thing, and I think it’s clearly achieved and surpassed its goal, but at this point I’m not even a little judgey of those who don’t play along. Yeah, this post is going to be all over the place because I got pissed off after reading an article that my hometown police department used some kind of construction truck to dump 400 gallons of water over the whole department. FFS. :mad: That’s a lot of fucking water that I’m sure people in California would love to have right now. Can we also talk about Olivia Wilde—claiming that she threw a bucket of breast milk over her head (it was really cow’s milk)? I mean seriously, there are people starving everywhere, there are droughts happening, and only in the good ol’ USA (and other privileged/first world places I guess) do we waste one (or two?) of earth’s natural resources by trying to outdo one another on social media. I’ve known what ALS is for a long time…I even had a co-worker who had it. Good for them for getting a whole shit ton of donations from this social media campaign. But now I expect to hear about how they found a cure in the next 2-3 years because it would be a damn shame if the CEO got a big fat raise and they threw one hell of a Christmas party (oh I’m sorry, HOLIDAY party) with the money instead. And updated their offices. Does anyone wonder what kind of charity rating they have? They better have a damn good Development Director and CFO who make sure this money actually goes for what it was intended to. Yes, I work for a non profit, I realize there are admin expenses (hell, they probably had to hire a few more A/R staff, IT staff, and mail room staff just to process all the money coming in). I get that. But I just can’t help but wonder what a few years out is going to bring. Will we really be that much closer to finding a cure? I hope so!!! And fuck you, Olivia Wilde for trying to ‘promote’ your cause of breast feeding on top of this. You have pissed off a LOT of people. I’m glad your breasts work. Now fuck off again. Patrick Stewart is all class by the way. That video ruled. ---

[CharityNavigator.org has an article about the ice bucket challenge.](http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=1780#.U_0BfmOgbB0) The national ALS Association (the most common donee for the challenge) is rated 4 stars by [CharityNavigator.org](http://CharityNavigator.org). That’s their highest rating. Other ALS charities vary, of course, but most rate pretty well there. ---
