If people want to talk about something truly pitworthy about BJs it would be the people filling up at the gas pumps. Never is human stupidity and ignorance more fully on display. The pumps reach around both sides of the vehicle, yet fully half of the drivers can’t grasp this and back in or pull around. Other dolts simply wait for a pump to open on the correct side of their car while others are free. It doesn’t occur to them to care about the line of ten cars behind them all honking. Some people just pull in the exit as their entrance and grab a pump that way. They’re too awesome for the line. More special snowflakes, I guess. ---

Have \*you \*ever tried bringing the hose to the other side? The sign lies. They do \*not \*fucking reach, unless you have a subcompact and you park practically touching the pump. You also have to pull against a much higher resistance from the retracting cable, and the nozzle winds up at an odd and inconvenient angle for insertion, with a strong tendency for the metal pieces to scratch the paint around the filler door. Using the natural side of the pump is \*not \*assholish behavior, but to denounce it anyway _is_. ---

I drive an SUV. Yes, I follow the instructions and pull into whichever pump is free. Never had a problem. Yes, it’s a minor inconvenience because you have to pull a little harder on the cable to extend it if you park too far away. I can see maybe someone with arthritis or who is 80 years old having trouble with it. But any adult in good health would have no problems. So what do you do, exactly? 1. Just sit there and wait, even if several pumps are open but not on the side you desire? (And ignore the honking of the cars behind you.) 2. Or do you pull around the other side of the pumps? (Ignoring the signs telling you not to do this.) 3. Or are you going full retard and just pulling right in the exit instead of the entrance and skipping the line entirely? ---

Me? If it’s just a one-car line, as is usually the worst case, I’ll wait. If there’s room, I’ll do a 180 and back in (without even disobeying the sign - “Ohh, it’s a sign, I’m so scared”). It’s only a few minutes, what the hell. Better than your “I’m too fucking important an asshole to wait for you peasants, so watch me scrape the hose across my car like a fucking caveman, see how it’s done, you lazy fucktards?” approach. ---

Cavemen didn’t fill up at BJs. They didn’t carry membership cards. You are lucky if there’s only a one car line. My local club usually has six to a dozen cars waiting. It moves quick, but the confusion is epic since about three quarters of the people follow instructions and pull straight in as they should and the other quarter of people fuck everything up. You say it’s “usually” the case that the line is one car. And “when there’s room” you back in. So it does happen that there’s cars waiting in line behind you and you don’t have room to back in. In these situations, you just sit there making everyone else wait because you are too delicate to pull the pump around? Or do you submit yourself to the mighty task of doing it the way you are supposed to? Honest question. I’m genuinely curious. \*Edit to add: Yes, I said half earlier. Thinking about it it’s probably more like a quarter at most. But it’s a significant number of people that can’t figure out that the pumps reach both sides. Or have some sort of physical issue with it as **ElvisL1ves** does. ---

Like I said, the line at BJs tends to be long, but it moves quick. It’s an amusing clusterfuck because of the people who can’t follow simple directions, though. The same entitled idiot who was sitting there waiting for the perfect pump to open up usually starts honking and getting pissy at the person trying to edge past them. Like I said, it’s all around a hilarious clusterfuck regularly because of the people like you who are so picky about which pump they use. The best situation is when one of the perfect pump seekers drives around the back side to pull in the wrong way and someone following the rules is pulling in the right way and they are nose to nose in front of the same pump. For what it’s worth, people in my area tend to form short lines for the individual pumps rather than a long general line. In other words, you’ll have a car lined up waiting at each pump rather than a ten car line further back. ---
