This is too light to be Pit-worthy. I’m not asking anything, so it’s not GD or GQ. Yeah, it’s my opinion, but I’m not asking for anyone **else’s** opinion on the matter, so it’s not IMHO. Therefore, I’m sticking this thread here. Deal with it. 😃 I’m flipping through the PeoplePages, just out of curiosity and a burning need to do something other than my work, [sub]and because I’m contemplating having a torrid affair with Superdude and wanted to be sure it would be worth my while[/sub] when it suddenly dawns on me. An incredibly high percentage of these people are _really_ good looking! And I think back to Bamadope… nary an unattractive person in the bunch. Nocturne’s a hottie; words can’t touch Simetra; Silky and No-surfer-too and DQ and TheNerd and Ogre… all high on the attractive scale. Even MrSilky and LadyOgre! [sub]and I’m certain Serendipity is just lovely, but I won’t know for sure til December[/sub] Now, I rate myself on the low-fair-to-middlin’ range of the attractive scale, and I’m thinking to myself, “Self,” says I, “Are you skewing the curve? Is there some weird unspoken rule that all the posters on SDMBs be leaning toward the ‘Man, I want to throw down on THAT’ range?” If there is some unspoken rule, I’ll be expecting my dismissal-from-the-boards letter any time now. If there isn’t, may I be the first to say “Damn all you attractive people! Damn you for being charming and witty and smart and only fueling my already overworked fantasy life!” There. Attractive people everywhere annoy me constantly. I work with a very large number of attractive people. While perusing the sights can be… interesting to say the least, for the most part it depresses me. Makeup tends to slide off my face after an hour of pulling out my hair and weeping and wailing in my cubicle. So what do I do to feel better? Go to the mall. Many other tired out, irritated looking people. Esp the mothers in the minivans driving like hooligans in the parking lot. Simple 😉 BK, if you’re as outgoing IRL as on the board, you likely come across as gorgeous no matter WHAT you look like (though I doubt it’s as bad as you think ATM) Attitude is everything. (Unfortunately, attitude does not make you photogenic.) Where are the tummy pics? HMM? ---

There’s a reason **my** picture isn’t even on those People Pages. Knowing that, keep in mind that us uglies just don’t post our pictures. That means that the sample is not really a good representative sample of Dopers. It just includes those comfortable enough with their looks to post their picture on the web. ---

One of the things I love about this place is the high value we place on intelligence and personality in determining attractiveness. I’ve seen people who are perhaps not Cindy Crawford or George Clooney get lots of crushes directed their way because of their brains. Physical attractiveness is nothing more than a genetic accident and says absolutely nothing about our value as a person. Sure, I consider myself physically attractive–and get plenty of feedback indicating others feel the same–but that’s not the only reason I get attention, and I like that a lot. **bobkitty** , I was tickled when you flirted with me in Jomo Mojo’s thread and was teribly disappointed when you didn’t come back to flirt some more, because you’re another one of those smart-sexy-sassy women we all love here. In addition to atractive people self-selecting themselves into the pool who are willing to submit pictures, let us not also forget that people are going to tend to submit photos which make them look good. I am not, on my best day, any contender for Miss America. But you can be damn sure that when I’m pawing through photos of myself for submission, I’m gonna find one with enough fuzzy focus and attractive lighting (and that was perhaps taken 10 pounds ago) to put my best foot forward. Or, in my case, you put a cute baby in it so it takes some of the focus off of my mug. I am sure when I showed up for my first Dopefest, people thought (with some shock) “Well, the truth comes out, Ms. Glamour Shots!” ---
