Firstly because they are for chain restaurants and chain restaurants are a blight along our nation’s highways and only contribute to the soul-sucking that our malls are doing to our population. But I like the Chili’s baby back rib songs. Not only that, but I love the other commercial for the other chain restaurant whose name escapes me now. This commercial I’m particularly ashamed that I like because it features a country and western tune. What’s even worse is that I sing this country and western tune about a soul-sucking chain restaurant at the slightest provocation. “How’s the sandwich, Biggirl?” “I like it. I love it. I want more of it!” “Is that report coming along, Biggirl?” “I like it. I love it. I want more of it!” ::hangs head:: ---

I love the commercials with the guinea pig and the rabbit for Blockbuster. Is there anything stupidier than those commercials? No, but I love them. Shake what your momma gave you! ---

I do not like, but I do admire the commercials for WalMart. They may be the only advertiser who really seems to use actors who look like they patronize their business. Most commercials use people far too good looking for the company they are pushing. You see Target commercials with gorgeous young models who have never been in the store. WalMart also gets rid of the backlighting that makes people in other commercials glow with a saintly light. I hate them, but at least they are honest. ---

I’m a fan of the Del Taco commercials featuring the hapless Dan the spokesman. The sight of the goof, dancing in a taco suit, getting pegged in the stomach with a soccer ball in Mexico always makes me chuckle. And that one in which he loses the giant inflatable Godzilla, which later terrorizes some kid playing in a sandbox. ---

I have that Jumbone jingle stuck in my head and, freakishly, I don’t mind too much. **fruitbat,** I think the Wal-Mart people, natural as they may be, still look far too good to be WalMartians. ---

I kinda like the Verizon guy. You know the one: “Can you hear me now? Good!” I really like the ones they’d run just after the opening credits for _Angel_, where he’d be in the same alley that’s in the last shot of the opening credits. That was way cool. ---

I love the commercial where the guy is channel surfing while watching a NASCAR race and Kevin Harvick comes in his living room and yells at him. NASCAR used to have those great “How Bad Do You Have It?” commercials, but the ones that they have this year are pretty lame. ---

The one I saw the other night about the squirrel tag (don’t remember the product) was funny, especially when the squirrel starts chasing the guys. ---

I LOVE the Zyrtec commercial with the guy who’s “not a cat person” and allergic to cats who lives with his girlfriend and girlfriend’s cat. He ends up wearing a t-shirt with the cat’s picture on it. I also like the credit counseling commercial (can’t remember the name) in which the guy is talking about all the cool stuff he’s bought on credit, and then says with this sick grin on his face, “I’m up to my eyeballs in debt.” The next shot is of him riding around on his lawnmower with the same stupid grin on his face, saying, “Someone please help me.” Okay, so that one’s not nearly as funny in writing as it is on the screen. Oh well, trust me–it’s funny. ---

Hey, those “actors” in the Wal-Mart commercials are not actors. They are real families. Really! I’m watching football this evening and they showed a funny new Southwest Airlines commercial: Courtroom is full and the baliff comes in and says “All Rise!”. In response, the entire gallery does “The Wave”, including the defendant (in cuffs and orange jail suit), then the announcer says, “It must be football season”. I cracked up!! ---

I LOVE the newish Kit Kat commercials. You know the ones - there’s a rock version of “Give me a break” and everyone does sill dances. I kind of considered taping those. ---

The Snickers Crunchers commercial with the SUV kills me every time. “Oh yea, biggest SUV in its class!” And the NFL/United Way commercials are always treasures. ---

There’s a Geico commercial where a squirrel runs in front of a car. The car swerves to miss and you hear a crash in the background. The squirrel then runs to another squirrel and they give each other a high five. Always like that one and I watch squirrels more closely now. There was also a commercial a few years ago when a local channel was showing Star Trek reruns. They played the Gilligan’s Island theme song with clips from Star Trek.
