Hi, Chief! While you were gone I visited my parents. When I was growing up my dad was a Navy Chief, too. I went into his den and saw a plaque that hung on his wall when I was a little girl. It says: “A Chief is always right. He may be misinformed, inexact, bullheaded, fickle, ignorant, even abnormally stupid but never wrong.” Do you have one, too? 😃 (Forgive the smiley but I wanted you to know that it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. It’s about _time_ you checked back in for duty! So you spent a half-year or so at sea; away from your son, intoxicating liquors, lubricious females… Fergit that military duty stuff about nukes and Sicilian toilets; we’re talking goddamned, Straight Dope, whuppin’ ignorant ass, plain-talkin’, troll-stompin’ _board obligations_ here! (Actually you didn’t miss much. There was a minor British invasion in the Pit, with some newcomers dissing UncleBeer on account of his moniker–and stomping a jerk–but damned if they didn’t end up pretty much fun and fitting in. It’s enough to depress a saint.) Though I’m a certified non-flirt, consider yourself firmly and enthusiastically kissed, sat down and supplied with refreshing beverages. Veb ---

Oh, and you missed some sort of surreal experience centered on FreakFreely, who ended up leaving. I don’t think anyone quite figured out what the heck was going on, but it was bizarre. You probably don’t even want to know. ---
