I’ve been holding this in for a long time, but I feel the need to finally let it all out. After being ridiculed and mocked once again today, I can’t hold it in any longer. I sexually identify as a mailbox and everywhere I go, people are always making fun of me. “Let me put my d\*\*\* in your slot,” “your post is hard,” “you must be excited, your flag is up.” I’m getting sick of it. All people do is point and laugh. I can’t even go to the bathroom without people laughing at me, mocking me. I feel people staring at me, I can see people giving me that long look through the corner of their eyes. Some nights I just go home and cry. I don’t know what to do. Do I demand a special bathroom at work? Do I just not go outside anymore? No one is understanding. No one. ---

Truly, it’s sometimes difficult to discern what is and isn’t intended a joke around here, so **I’ll err on the side of “not a joke.”** And I’m getting up there in age (most midway in my 52nd trip around the sun), and ought to allow that there’s such a thing as sexually identifying as … a mail box. (As decrepit as I am, even I’ve heard of cisgender for example, and people born with a penis who’d prefer not to have one … and have even gone so far as to get theirs removed (and not by an irate lover or former lover).) What you describe would be considered harassment. You don’t mention adverse actions by your employer. I’m afraid regardless of where you are located, while you’re free to “demand” (or ask) for whatever you like at work, the employer wouldn’t be obligated to provide you with a special bathroom. (I’m not clear how to answer the topic of “go[ing] outside”, at least until you clarify what you mean by that, _e.g._, to relieve yourself.) Depending on your state, however, you **may** have a viable legal issue if your employer won’t make the harassment stop. Unfortunately, not all types of harassment are unlawful everywhere, and yet another thing that people consistently and often completely misapprehend is the concept of what constitutes a “hostile work environment”, and that includes lawyers. ---
