I'm calling about your Car warranty

I am frequently called about extending my car warranty. The funny thing is I have not owned a car since 1988.

I get a ton of car warranty calls. I just ignore them, but I got a postcard the other day from these guys…

I think they are legit, just maybe so-so. They did get the make model and year of the car right, so they have some list from somewhere. The BBB has them on file, but they only get three stars.

Personally, spoofing phone numbers puts them on my “do not trust” list automatically.

I get them too, with the minor distinction that I have not owned a car since ever. Not one. In my whole life.

I have rented or car-shared cars, though, so I guess I got in their database that way. I wonder if car-warranty scammers also call people who have never had a driver’s license?

I always figured they were calling numbers sequentially. That is, going through all the numbers possible for each area code and assigned prefix within that area code.

I got a call (around 6 p.m. on a Saturday!) from whoever, stating this was my last chance to respond to the outstanding warrant in my name, something about a magistrate, and to press ‘one’ to continue. I assume something bad happens if you press ‘one,’ so I just hung up.

I press one and ask them if this is really really_ really_ the last time I’ll hear from them? Other times, I try to get them to cover my 2018 Schwinn…

When I’ve been bored I’ve pressed 1 for the car warranty scam, since I’m curious about who will answer. All the times I’ve done it, it rang five or six times and no one answered.
I guess the nahemployment crisis has hit the scammers also.

I’ll take your word for it because you have always been “official” Ice T. CarShield it is.
