When Michi changed her name to Cyndar why didn’t it change on her old posts? Crunchy Frog seems to have been applied to all of Bratman’s posts. ---

It affects all posts that were made under vB. The old UBB posts remain under the original poster name. Bratman probably never posted pre-vB, and Michi did. The Pit and the Pendulum is, as far as I know, a normal poster who never changed his name. ---

I found it. His name was **bongel** and here’s the thread where he changed. **[The BBQ Pit\> What’s a good name for me? Thanks Coldie, but [this post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=35703#post679743) seems to have been made after the upgrade. I guess it doesn’t really matter; I was just wondering if it was some kind of vB glitch. ---

Actually, there are 2 ways to get name changes. One is to have your name change and keep the same PosterID# and therefore the same post counts, etc. In that case the name changes all the way back to the when the board changed to vBulletin software. That is what Crunchy Frog/Bratman did and many others. However, you can also have the one name closed and start a new name from scratch. In that case, the old post are with the old PosterID/name and the new ones with the new ID/name. This is what Michi/Cyndar did. I think NotTheMama/DuckDuckGoose and some others have done it that way, too. If you look at the profile for Michi, she registered 4-11-200, had 643 post, last post 9-26-2000, ID#-5576. Cyndar registered 9-28-2000, has 288 post, last post 12-1-2000, ID#9813. Administrators are capable of changing the name either way. Jim ---

This seems to be how **iberii** changed to \*\*iamthewalrus(:3= \*\*
