I'm Freaking Out, or, It's a Small World

This morning I got an email from my half-brother.

I actually didn’t know for certain that I even HAD a half-brother. I haven’t seen the guy since I was, oh, four or five years old. The last time I saw him was at my (our) father’s house, back in Texas. I’d always kind of wondered what happened to him- I couldn’t even remember his name.

Yesterday, he was apparently googling our last name, and ran across my site.

The weird thing? I just moved here from Bend, Oregon… which is where he lives and works. Three months ago, I was living in the same small town as my half-brother, even though the last time I saw him was halfway across the country.

Before your enthusiasm carries you over the falls, please read Cajun’s last sticky in the forum.

Am I being whooshed? He’s not a doper, and I’m not arranging a dopefest…

Caution is called for in any case where you may be meeting someone with whom you/they may have pre-conceived expectations.

Not just when you meet dopers.

Not a swoosh, per se … more of a glancing blow off the ol’ melon.

I too am confused.

Here’s hopins 1/2 bro’s not a freak Lightnin’

Upon review, I see his explanation. I don’t agree with it though. It’s a half brother, not just random man.

I was going to ask you if you knew him while you are there but Bend, OR has a population of over 50,000. That is not a small town. That is a smallish city. It would have been cool if he was your plumber or somethinh while you lived there and you never knew.

Actually, the population’s closer to 80k now- it really jumped in size while I was living there. I think at one point the population was growing by 14 people per day.

Anyway, it sounds large… but it really still feels small. I used to run into people I knew, all over town. Besides, I’ve lived most of my life in big cities- comparatively, Bend is tiny.
