Well, I’m from Mississippi, so that’s quite a start. Crazily enough, most of the anti-South sentiment seems to be directed at Alabama, Arkansas and South Carolina. I suppose it’s because we don’t have anything like Bob Jones University, we haven’t had that judge with the Ten Commandments (although our then “democratic” governor wanted to relocate them there) and don’t have the reputation of having backwood hicks (rednecks, on the other hand are another thing!) I’ve lived outside of there for a while, and I’ve gotten loads of responses when i tell people that’s where I’m from. People in Denmark usually have a weird facial expression. It’s obviously got negative connotations, but the thing is I get the feeling that they feel that they don’t know enough about it to make a joke about it. Sometimes you’ll catch a few who do make a few jokes. “Mississippi Burning” is often mentioned. I usually say that I’ve never seen it, because I don’t really feel that I need to see it to know about my home. In New York, things were different! I had a girlfriend, who when mad would bring that out! But generally people there keep the remarks about it pretty low. But Mississippi, if I need to say it, has a reputation for being racist, and stupid, and well, what else? Not a whole lot… Peter Griffin: The deep south? Isn’t that the place where the black guys are really lazy and all the white guys are just as lazy but they’re mad at the black guys for being so lazy? ---

I was only 2, myself. ---

I am from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Well, as far as the rest of Canada is concerned, I am an over educated, over payed, spoiled red neck… As far as the rest of Alberta is concerned, I am an over payed, demon loving artsy fartsy liberal atheist who wants to enforce Gay marraige and abortion. I live in South edmonton, so north edmontonians “know” I tend to hang out at coffee shops discussing Phillip Glass and Post Post Modernist attitudes towards archetectural dynamics in neo classical astructural decortaive motifs. I grew up on a farm, however, so many south Edmontonians feel that I can never “get” POPOMO irony… I just can’t win… Oh, and anyone south of the border seems to think that we live in igloos and put our grannies on ice flows once they get to old and toothless to chew the seal hides… regards (and a grin) FML ---

Everyone sits on the beach and strums a ukulele all day Other than Vegas and Disneyland, we rarely venture to the mainland. Therefore, we’ve never seen snow.
