I’m getting a Cold Steel Heavy Duty sword cane (out on delivery today) and on this video (starting at .40) he has a ring with a lanyard on it. Some one posted a question on where he can get one but this guy never responded. Do you guys (and gals) have an idea where I can get something like this? Here in Texas starting Sept 1st, in the statute where the weapons were considered illegal will no longer be illegal. If you want to carry a sword or a stiletto you can do so as long as you’re 18 and over. Since I have a carry permit and a pistol I did not need this law as I already can legally carry forbidden weapons but there are places I cannot carry my pistol in. My sword cane will be my second line of SD. Sweet! I forgot Texas was legalizing swords. I’m not sure where you can get one though, but “the internet” would be my first guess. 😉 Actually a quick google search for “sword cane” brought up a lot of sites, which are unfortunately blocked on my work computer as “weapons sales”, so I can’t confirm if any are worthwhile. But there are a lot to choose from at least. Why not “open carry”, so to speak, and just wear a rapier on your hip? I’d be really interested to see swords come back, for fashion purposes alone. Used to be you weren’t a gentleman without a piece of cold steel (with or without a jewel encrusted hilt) to show off as you walked down main street. And it would be a great way to get more people involved in martial arts and self defense training. Not that I want to see more street duels or anything, but what’s the point of carrying it if you don’t know how to use it? Being active and training for self defense are good things all on their own, even if the threat isn’t very large. ---

This will be “concealed” carry. 😃 I carry my pistol (Glock G29 gen 4) on my belt but I wear a conceal carry vest. It’s very seldom I carry open. Funny thing is since we have open carry begun in Jan 1st 2015 I haven’t seen any open carry at all. ---

When I was in my native State, carrying a sword cane was a felony. (Blowguns were illegal, too.) ---

One advantage of having a “concealed carry” permit is that there is reciprocity with many other states. However, please keep in mind that in most states, a carry permit is NOT a permit to carry a concealed weapon. It is a permit to carry a concealed handgun ONLY. It sort of sounds like you are thinking that your carry permit already allowed you to carry any sort of weapon concealed on your person. I don’t know if that’s true for Texas, but you will be in a world of hurt if you do that in NC (or many of the other reciprocating states). Just a word of caution. ---

He’s not looking for a sword cane, he’s looking for a lanyard. If you don’t want to get one online, check out an office supply store, or anyone who might sell ID card holders. Cold Steel sword canes are awesome. Congratulations. I don’t own one (I wouldn’t be able to legally take it anywhere) but I compromised with a [self defense cane](http://www.coldsteel.com/steven-seagal-ten-shin.html) from Cold Steel. I’d hurt my foot badly and it was hard to walk without a cane and wanted something cool and functional, that could serve in a pinch if I needed protection (I hate feeling vulnerable like I do when injured). I still have it, it’s a nice sturdy and comfortable cane. And isn’t obviously a weapon nor does it have hidden blades or anything. If you hold it upside down it’s basically a sturdy plastic bokken. ---

I know about that cane. They’re awesome according to this guy at [10mm.com](http://10mm.com). He also got a Nightwatchman sword cane. I like the Amazon lanyard shown now all I need is a clamp to attach it. ---

I almost fell over when I read here that Texas is legalizing swords. The sheer surprise factor knocked me out, 'cause who (not me) would even think of this in 2017. Next I’m surprised that there is, apparently a demand for this on the part of the citizens–or so one assumes since it presumably would have taken some voter pressure to change the law. I’m not opposed to it, it is a wonderfully steampunk anachronism, just wouldn’t have expected such a thing in a million years. As someone said, it would be kind of cool (if admittedly dangerous) if swords came back as “a thing,” now when humanity is getting ready to send people to Mars and produce millions of artificially intelligent robots. Wouldn’t that be a thing, if the robots were so immune to our weapons and other defenses that the only way to defeat them was to go low-tech, and we’d see scary Terminator style bots dueling it out in the streets with sword-wielding citizens. There’s a great post-apocalyptic series for you. Into the Badlands meets Westworld or something. 🙂 ---

I have one. They are pretty good for a $100 sword cane, but they are far from flawless. The biggest flaw is that the o-rings are some goofy Chinese-made bastard size that I have found impossible to replace from any US hardware or automotive store. Cold Steel does not seem to offer replacements and their customer service has ignored a number of emails on the topic. You ARE going to need to replace them, too. It doesn’t take much practice drawing and resheathing to wear them out. Secondly, if you are going to use this as a real therapeutic cane, you will need to fill the tip of the sheath with something to cushion the blade and dampen vibration. The blade is held in the “grivory” handle by two smallish pins. The repeated tapping and vibration from really using the cane will loosen the blade from the handle quickly if this is not dealt with. The blade is made from okay steel and will take s sharp edge if you want to put the effort in. From the factory they are not even sharp-ish.
