The argument in this thread has largely been about whether it is appropriate to be glad that he’s dead. I’m not glad, but i do think that he brought it upon himself and pretty much deserved what he got, especially given his history of driving infractions, which included a previous DUI, many previous speeding tickets, and citations for driving while suspended. ---

When I drove home last night, there were three cars (and one beer truck) parked on the side of the road overlooking the crash site, and the drivers were outside and taking pictures of it. So…yeah. For the record, I don’t think he deserved to die, or that one should be glad he’s dead, or that being a minor celebrity meant that he forfeited his right to be treated with the respect one would afford to any other person…but he did a really stupid thing and died in a way that was entirely his fault and entirely preventable. ---

It is a selfish, reckless and irresponsible act, and it is by definition a crime. Evil, to me, implies direct intent to harm others so no, I don’t see it as evil. I’m not willing to entertain the idea that stupid = evil. And yes, I think there are far worse, and far more malicious ways to treat others. Call it a fine distinction if you want, but I see a huge difference between recklessly endangering the lives of others by engaging in an activity with a very high survivability rate, and actively seeking to intentionally cause harm for its own sake. ---

I have not seen mentioned anywhere if the driver or passenger were wearing seat belts. While I would have to imagine that a DWI sucks bad, it would have to suck less than death.
