I’m wondering if it might be a good idea to get myself out of the habit of sucking on my pencil whilst I’m trying to think. Especially as I don’t actually hold the pencil with my hand, just suck on the end… It might give even gifted and talented teenage boys too many visual images to concentrate on physics… 😉 ---

Don’t eat carrots or suck on lollies either. But do wear silk blouses that button up the front and frilly undergarments. Use a riding crop to point at things on the flip chart, every now and then thwacking it with substantial energy (which can be a physics exercise all its own). You _do_ have a flip chart, don’t you? Ask them, “Assume there is a God, and he is you. Explain what you might have done to cause the rapid inflation phase of the hot expansion model.” Or something like that. (Please excuse my superficial lay knowledge of cosmology.) ---
