# I'm going to a performance of Dido and Aeneas tonight

It starts in about forty five minutes’ time.
I love this work. It was one of the first things I did when I first joined a choir. Are there any other fans out there?

Oh dear God, I thought you were going to see the singer Dido in concert, joined by someone I hadn’t heard of named Aeneas.

…and I came into the thread thinking it was about Mark Morris’ Dance Company’s work of the same (or similar) name. Beautiful and brilliant - but not what you are referring to - sorry!

Where’d you go to college? I don’t think of opera as that typical for most schools.

Macquarie University in Sydney. The uni choir mounted a production of Dido and Aeneas in my first year there.

[Dido and Aeneas](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dido_and_aeneas) is a short opera (about an hour’s duration) by the English composer Henry Purcell. The plot is based on the episode in Book IV of the Aeneid. The music is lovely throughout for both soloists and chorus, with the most famous piece being Dido’s lament, _When I am laid in earth_, at the very end.
