I grew up to be pretty girly, much to my own surprise. Although I still shriek at the players when I go to a ballgame. And I canā€™t figure out why anyone would wear heels on the weekend (thatā€™s when you get to wear jeans and flipflops!). My favorite girly things are pedicures and manicures. I looooove pedicures. I ge my fingernails buffed, though, polish is too much for me. On the purses: I find most purses are awfully small. I carry a Dickies messenger bag most days. It fits my lunch, my notebook, my wallet, whatever book Iā€™m reading (I hate going anywhere without a book), and an extra pair of shoes, if I happen to be wearing new shoes that Iā€™m concerned might get uncomfortable. I finally did get a smaller bag for when Iā€™m going out, but I wouldnā€™t dream of taking it to work. So, um, **Seren** ā€¦ youā€™re trying to be a girl and find gal palsā€¦ AND youā€™re learning to fly airplanes??? (By the way, arenā€™t we due for another update thread on that?) Iā€™ve never been a girly-girl - always a tomboy. Then, somewhere in my 30ā€™s, my macho relented and I started wearing more skirts and dresses and stuff. But even so, I ditched the makeup and purse collection years ago (it had been a failed attempt to ā€œfeminizeā€ me back when I was still under the control of parents and school). I do a pretty good ā€œdragā€ at work when appropriate, and Iā€™m getting an urge to get a simple purseā€¦ but you know menopause is approaching, the hormones are a-changinā€™, and now, after finally coming to terms with my feminine side, itā€™s becoming rapidly apparent I will have to figure out a way to deal with the incipient goatee my chin is trying to cultivate. Bleaching isnā€™t going to work - it would leave me with _white_ hair, not invisible hair. Hmmā€¦ maybe more of a fu manchu than a goatee. Nor am I waxing my face, as someone recently suggested. If I canā€™t bring myself ot wax my _legs_ what the hell would induce me to wax my _face?_. _\>sigh\<_ I just know this is all part of a journey to yeti-hood. If I could just wake up one morning entirely hairy/furry I could simply hire myself out to a sideshow and make tons of money, but this slow transformation thing is just a pain. Umā€¦ I suppose thatā€™s not a very girly fantasy, is it? Itā€™s amazing how a het female like me is more butch than most lesbians I know. ---

Itā€™s because girls just donā€™t tend to do fun things, like flying. Clearly, you and I are superior females. šŸ˜ƒ Anyway, Iā€™m girly every day of the week except Thursdays. Thursdays, the hair goes up and out of the face, and the contacts stay in their case and the glasses go on. Iā€™ll wear old jeans and a t shirt and some sneakers Iā€™ve had for a few years now. No point in dressing up if Iā€™m just gonna be sweating and getting av gas all over myself. Well, except todayā€¦ I have a lunch date with that nice boy who may or may not be sitting on my desk and/or flowers. šŸ˜ƒ But Iā€™ll definitely change before my lesson. And Iā€™ll post an update soon, I swear. ---

speaking of ā€œa little attentionā€ā€¦ Iā€™ve never been hardcore about my tomboyery; Iā€™ve just always been about comfort. if I can look hot and be comfortable, Iā€™m all for it, but itā€™s generally an impossibility. I pretty much hate skirts and dresses (I donno, I just feel too ā€œexposedā€ or something), though Iā€™ll wear them to like court or an interview or downtown. I donā€™t mess with my hair other than to blowdry and brush it-- itā€™s long and straight and really looks fine left as such when clean, IMO. I wear makeup and perfume when I go out, ā€œoutā€ meaning for an evening of debauchery, and every time it is the BIGGEST scandal. ā€œoh, Ravenā€™s wearing _makeup_!!! oooohhhhh, Ravenā€™s wearing GIRL clothes!!! look at YOU, hottie!!!ā€ gag. itā€™s cute and fun every once in awhile, but man, sometimes you just want to walk in and be acknowledged like a normal person, not cooed and squealed over like a child; itā€™s just embarassing. god forbid I should ever resort to carrying a purse; people would soil themselves. now that I think about it, though, even when I wore makeup every day (high school) people freaked out when I wore anything particularly girly, and I think it might be because of the way I talk. I present as very masculine in mannerism and especially speech, because every other word that comes out of my mouth is ā€œfuckā€, and rarely in angerā€¦ itā€™s just a word to me, like ā€œtheā€, and I think that really cements this image of masculinity in peopleā€™s heads. I donā€™t think it would matter if I started wearing makeup and skirts and purses and heels today for the rest of my life, Iā€™d still get shit about it, because Iā€™ll never have a feminine personality. ---

Of course, thereā€™s guarantee the guys of are of high quality, and thatā€™s the downside. And most of 'em seem to be divorced at least once - usually over aviation issues.
