There is a road on the other side of the fence about 20 yards behind my house. As there’s an extra lane there, it’s not that uncommon for vehicles to pull over there. My neighbor’s (adult) kid also smokes (outside). 2:35am I am awakened to the sound of voices outside; from the above setup, as you can I imagine, this is not a huge surprise. 2:37 am I hear a loud tapping on the glass (like a flashlight) & the sentence, “POLICE, Open the front door!” :eek: I immediately get out of bed & go to the window & peer thru the blinds when I hear the chirp of a mike being keyed & the words, “we just had someone come to the window.” :eek: :eek: :eek: I throw on sweats & go peek out the front window before going downstairs. There are 5 PD cars upfront, the first ones being in front of my neighbors house. Three of them had pulled away by 2:41am. I don’t know WTF was going on but the timing of my peeking thru the blinds coupled w/ the one cops comment had me seriously spitting a brick despite the fact that I haven’t done anything nearly illegal enough to get raided. (They don’t do overnight raids for moving violations if they don’t catch you in the act, do they???) For some reason, I’m not falling back to sleep so easily. :rolleyes: ---

Call the non-emergency number and ask. We recently had like 9 million police comb our neighborhood, so my wife called the non-emergency number to inquire whether we should maybe be worried. They had no problem explaining what was going on (guy with a warrant fled a traffic stop). ---

One time we had a helicopter circling the neighborhood shining a searchlight everywhere, even into windows. After it returned multiple times, I called the police non-emergency number to ask what was going on. The dispatcher denied anything was going on and said there wasn’t a police presence in my neighborhood. Now, you know and I know that the dispatcher was either _lying_ or engaging in some good old “hang up and don’t bother me, I can’t be arsed to ask anyone if something’s going on.” But I was annoyed a) by the helicopter and b) by the non-response. So I said, “In that case I want to report a strange helicopter flying over the house repeatedly and shining a searchlight on everything. If it’s NOT police, you guys better come see what’s going on.” That immediately resulted in a change of story, and of course they were looking for someone, they just “didn’t want us to worry.” :rolleyes: ---

The thread title made it sound like the voices were in your head, so my conclusion is that I’m glad you’re ok instead of stark, raving, barking mad (with superhuman strength and the ability to climb walls to boot). ---

I had the police round my back yard over the weekend - he told me off for opening the door. I told (what I thought was) the potential burglar to “Get the \*\*_fuck_ \*\* off my property!” and he yelled back; Police! Get back inside!" Later he said that opening the door just increased any possible risk if there are baddies running about. I had called and reported the incident in the meantime (between me yelling at him and him coming back to explain) and, like **sailboat** , had to really push to get an answer. The cop and I had a good laugh about the whole thing - and it turned out a mate of mine from around the corner had not only opened the door, but run down the road and had to be escorted home and have her house checked because she’d left her door open. The runner had nicked a car and rammed the cops when they tried to stop him. They didn’t get the guy, not even with the dogs. ---

Here in my town I was kept awake a few days ago by a helicopter circling. A couple hours earlier there had been a ton of police and firetrucks going through. Then I get an automatic alert call from the police department, and a recording alerting us to the news that a VERY wanted fugitive was at large. They gave his description and said not to approach him. Turns out he shot and killed two cops in front of the grocery store I usually go to. But he’s not at large anymore, he got cornered in a house, wouldn’t surrender, and when he came out with a gun in his hand he was killed. ---
