That is, I’m at home, and I’m sick. It all started yesterday with a scratchy throat. I figured it was just my sinuses draining, because I felt OK otherwise. It continued to hurt thru the day in into the evening. I had some creamy clam chowder because I figured it’d be soothing on my throat. I cranked up the electric blanket to “snuggly warm” and took to my bed early. About 10PM, I turned off the TV and went to sleep. I woke up around 1AM. Throat still sore. Head congested. Lips dried out. Generally feeling lousy, and unable to fall back to sleep. So I clicked on the TV and surfed channels for the next few hours. I’d drift in and out of sleep, but never deeply. A bit before 4, I turned off the TV and dozed. My alarm went off at 4:50. \ I fumbled with the phone, called the boss man’s voice mail and left word that I wouldn’t be in. Sometime after 6, I dragged myself to the kitchen to let the dog out and find myself something to eat. I thought a warm bowl of oatmeal would do the trick. It didn’t. I threw most of it away. The kid went to school and I was left alone. Well, the dog’s here. But hubby’s about 800 miles away and here I sit without a can of chicken noodle soup. \ I did take a steamy shower and that helped somewhat. I’m in sweats and my fuzzy bathrobe, about to dive into a bowl of Lipton Chicken Noodle soup - it’s not the same as Campbell’s - but it’s all I’ve got. I considered mac-n-cheese, but that’s too many steps. Have I mentioned that I’m not feeling well? Yes, this is a blatant cry for sympathy and attention and hot chocolate and a foot rub and anything else I can get in the way of pity. Let me feel the love. Maybe you should have just gone to work. That way you could at least make others share your misery until you dicide to leave early. I haven’t taken a sick day in about four years. ---

That sounds like what I had. I literally slept all weekend. Didn’t eat much of anything for 3 days, no appetite. All I wanted to do was sleep. I finally feel better today, I hope you feel better soon. ---

There’s a medicine available to be taken at the first stages of a cold that reduce the length and severity of it. Can’t remember the name, but anyone else? (It actually does work, apparently. If I could remember the name, I would try it myself.) (Oh, I feel very sorry for you. Being sick sucks. Trying to sleep when you’re sick is the worst. Have a nice cup of hot lemon, read some good books, and heave a nice day. I mean “have” a nice day.) ---

no, **Gorgon Heap** , you’re not playing by the rules - I want pity, dagnabbit! And I absolutely refuse to go to work sick. That’s what sick leave is for. I have no compelling deadlines, so I’m keeping my germy self home. **Boscibo** , unfortunately, there’s no way I could sleep for 3 days - I’ll be happy with 3 hours, tho. When the kid gets home from school, she wants to start setting up the tree. I don’t know that it’ll happen today. **ultress** , I had me a bowl of soup followed by a bowl of ice cream. Good for coating a sore throat, right? **featherlou** , I have to be careful of OTC cold meds. I’m on meds for high blood pressure and that rules out a lot of decongestants. So I have to let the stuffiness resolve itself. As for what I’m hiding, trust me, you really don’t want to know. Really! Now, **Ayesha** , you have the right idea. Hot chocolate and fluffy pillows. Actually, right before I had my soup, I turned on my electric blanket. I’m going to head back to my bedroom and curl up with whatever is on TV, in the hopes that I can doze a while. Oh, **Honey** , gold star for you! \* Campbell’s chicken noodle soup with Keebler Club crackers is one of my favorite comfort foods. ---

Last week I came down with a sore throat, a low grade fever and achiness which lasted about 24 hours. The next day my sinuses were killing me. I called Nancy, my doc, and she told me there’s something they’re calling “the ten day virus” going around. They call it that because it lasts ten days. :smack: It’s now day seven for me and it’s settled in my chest, tho I’m still draining from my sinuses. _hack_ _cough_ ---

Oh, poor **FCM**! ::ivylass starts the kettle for a nice hot cup of tea. She hands **FCM** the tv remote control and a nice new box of Aloe Lotion tissues for her sore nose. Nudges **Honey** , hands her the bucket of Homemade Chicken Soup from the kosher deli down the street. **Honey** dumps out the Campbell’s. Beckons to Sven, the handsome buff Swede, who sits in front of **FCM** with a shy smile and strong hands and begins squeezing oil on her feet. Unplugs the phone. Forges a doctor’s note for the boss. Tiptoes out…::: ---

awwww, thanks, **welby** - there 's something very theraputic about warm hands on feet… better, **Gorgon** , that’s what I wanted. **Quasi** , much as I loved **Mister Rogers** for keeping my baby entertained when she was a wee lass, he’s definitely _not_ on my comfort list in my old age. But a warm blankie always works. no, no, no **Eggerhaus** - I can’t be sick for 10 days. I’m a mom - I don’t have time to be sick for 10 days. There’s decorations to get up and cookies to bake and shopping to finish. I need a wife!! **ivylass** , in your wonderful curative bag of goodies, do you have a doggie silencer? I was having a wonderful nap when Bernie decided something out back had to be barked at. She kept barking till I was groggily roused. Now she’s quiet. Stupid dog. poor **genie** - it’s rough when a kidlet is sick, and worse when you are at the same time. Wanna share my box of tissues? Thank you all - the good thoughts are cheering thru the sniffles and sneezes. My kid will be home within the hour - wonder how much I can guilt out of her?? \ ---

My deepest sympathies to Sick Moms With Preschoolers. Been there, done that, got the spit-up bucket.
