> So far so good. I went to Apple One temp agency in Glendale yesterday. Found it okay but had a hell of a time getting home. Somehow I kept ending up either northbound on 5 or eastbound on 134. After half an hour and 2 gallons of gas (and lots of swearing) I got oriented and headed home.

Heh. The trick there is to take the 2–which is never busy–down to Silver Lake, stop off at The Red Lion for a beer, and then take Alverado down to the 10 West, thereby bypassing the dreaded 101/110 and 10/110 interchanges. Once you get some incoming cash get yourself the Thomas Guide for L.A. County (or at least one of those QuickFinders) and study it well. A working knowledge of major surface streets will serve you well. I find it pretty easy to get around via surface streets when the highways are backed up. But if you just have some urgent desire to go to Orange County (???), well then, you’re ufcked. 😉

Those are actually pretty decent hours for beating traffic. Van Nuys, though. Learn the mountain bypass roads well.

I’m breaking the pact here–the one that requires all residents of Southern California to maintain the facade that it’s always sunny and bright here–but it’s actually pretty grey and SoCal “cold” right now. I kind of like it, actually; it gives the place that kind of Chandleresque feel rather than the cheap, tinny _90210_-vibe it normal exudes. 🆒

Hey now, I resemble that remark!

As do I.

Besides, if you want to have a REAL Dopefest, you’ll want the expert Dopefest planners, namely myself and my wife, **cadolphin**.

But I’m afraid you’ll have to come down behind the Orange Curtain to party with us.

Come on, it’s only about 30-45 minutes south. Not bad on the weekend at all.

Welcome to California! From an El Lay native, you’re gonna love it.

By the way, if you like good deli, venture up a little north into Pacific Palisades and visit Mort’s Deli on Swarthmore. Overstuffed sandwiches and wonderful matzoball soup. Want directions? Email me.

Hey, we’re practically neighbors! I live right near Sepulveda and Olympic and work in Santa Monica down in the music district on Colorado.

Welcome to LA, davmilasav! As my wife and I say at least once a week: “It’s another perfect day in paradise!”
