# I'm in San Francisco. I’m in San Francisco for a job interview. After I get out of the meetings this afternoon, I’ve got tonight and all day tomorrow to explore the city. What should I do? ---

Eat. San Francisco is foodie central, and is cram-packed with any number of delightful little French bistros and Italian trattorias. Here are a few French: Cafe Bastille Jeanty at Jack’s Plouf Frisson And a few Italian: Brindisi Cucina di Mare Tiramisu A16 Plus the great old standby, the Tadich Grill for an old-time California seafood experience. Have fun in the City! ---

What’re you into? Because fella, we got it. Judging from your name, I’ll point you [my list of SF breweries](http://community.livejournal.com/sfbars/profile) compiled for an LJ community I run. Also of note are [Zeitgeist](http://www.yelp.com/biz/UXru0FThfONxJQ95oPnaBw) a kinda of trashy dive cyclist bar with a good selection of CA microbrews, with a big outdoor/smoking area, [Toronado](http://www.yelp.com/biz/hRx9n9PJ7FLmoi9GwoFg3g), which has a more annoying crowd (strictly IMHO) but a ridiculous selection of microbrews and European beers. I think the most mainstream they get is Anchor Steam, if they even have that. [Jack’s at the Cannery](http://www.yelp.com/biz/ImPPcbVqEFhNw42S2BZ_EA) is on Fisherman’s Wharf, 85 beers on tap, but somehow not all that interesting a selection. ---

Non-food stuff: Ride on a cable car. Start at Union Square and take the one that goes all the way to Ghiradelli Square. Walk the steps on Telegraph Hill: As I remember, they start on either Sansome or Battery and climb all the way up to Coit Tower. A bit strenuous, but also one of the most beautiful and hidden parts of the city. You are essentially climbing stairs through incredibly beautiful yards, passing row houses that seem only accessible on foot. The plant life is amazing. I don’t think you’ll see anything like this in any other city in the US. The surest way to find these is probably to ask a taxi driver, but here is a TinyURL link to a Google map pointing roughly to it: [Telegraph Hill](http://tinyurl.com/ph2o2) Scroll about 6 pages up from this using the arrows on the left. When you get to the buildings that look like they have little cubes in them, stop. This is the terraced buildings of Levi Strauss. Right across Sansome street (running roughly N/S) are the steps. You’ll see a whopping big hill rising up in front of you. ---

Just from what I did the last time I was there: Have dinner at the Mona Lisa Cafe in North Beach. While in North Beach, then do some barhopping and hear some live music. It’s mostly rock bands, except for Pearl’s. For more jazz you could head down to Club Deluxe, a 1949 vintage jazz bar right at Haight and Ashbury. (It’s fascinating to think of that place holding forth through the Summer of Love, though they might not have had jazz bands then). One of the things I love about San Francisco is that there’s so much great live music to be had for the price of a drink. For tomorrow: I know most of the locals probably think of it as a tourist trap, but the Embarcadero and Ferry Building are fun. Besides, the BART station at the end of Market Street is close, and the BART goes right to the airport, so you can just hang out in the Embarcadero area until it’s time to go to the airport. ---
