# I'm looking for simple web based database software

I used to use Microsoft Works back in the early 90s and I thought it was what I needed. But that’s basically gone now.
Say I have a spreadsheet with 10 columns and 100 rows.
I want to be able to select one option from each column all the way down, and see what matches the critieria.
So Column 1 is Vendors, I pick “Company A”. Column 2 is Styles, I pick “Style” B. Column 3 is color, I pick “Color C”.
Then it shows me the results that match? Anything that can do that online without a download and maybe for free? heh

I would look into [Google Sheets - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Sheets). It should do what you describe and is free.
Sounds like a fairly simple IF AND AND formula and Sheets does that.
There is free access Word, Excel, and PowerPoint using Microsoft 365 for the web (formerly Office). But I understand with ads.

The “Data table” feature in Excel does exactly that. Select your header row and block of data rows below, click the Filter button and viola: The heders turn into dropdowns and the list filters based on which values you restrict in which columns.
I don’t know that Excel online is free, but it’s a darn good bet that definitely-free Google Sheets has a very similar capability although probably with slightly different terminology.

@Eleusis, can I also put in a good word for [Airtable.com](http://Airtable.com)? I’m not affiliated with them, but they offer a very nice service, like a modern web-based Access that’s super easy to use and share, and has a generous free plan.

You can easily mix & match column filters there, link to related tables (like companies), or show the same data in a [gallery view](https://airtable.com/appjwDSgE6ISBzWGs/shrW9ritgdQ6jmfrb/tblherP9ZpkI71jYN/viwgTQVUZDQSKBdJA?blocks=hide) (and still apply filters), etc.

It’s a really good product and way better than Google Sheets or Excels if you want something more database-like than spreadsheet-like.
