Jason Newsted was no slouch himself. Listen to “The God That Failed,” “My Friend of Misery” or pretty much any of his live performances. Cliff was amazing, but Jason was good too.
Atlanta Rhythm Section always had really smooth, catch bass lines, with a nice solo on “Champagne Jam.”
The B-52s had some great bass lines as well, in fact, I was kinda oblivious to the B-52s for years until one night I was driving around at night and had my car radio cranked up good and really HEARD the bass lines to “Rock Lobster.”
ZZ Top has some amazingly tight bass lines as well.
And let’s not forget Mother’s Finest with the bass line on “Baby Love”
