It’s almost Human Body Temperature outside and the water’s been cut off in my building because some asshole fucked up his A/C and flooded his neighbours. If I want to go the bathroom I’ve got to walk down 24 flights of stairs, because two of the elevators in my building have been taken over by maintenance crews and movers. Then walk back up. Or wait 20 minutes while the one elevator open to the people who actually LIVE in my building goes floor by floor by floor… Forget about a shower. And I need one, since I went out early to mail a registered letter, and it was already 30 Celsius / 90 F in Manhattan. And I was looking forward to that second shower of the day. Counting on it. Except, you know, I got back to find out I had no water… I’m supposed to bring pasta salad to my kid’s daycare potluck tonight, except, you know, NO FUCKING WATER. Looking out the window I see the tide in the East River isn’t flowing that fast today. Anyone got some rope that I can tie to the fence so I can climb back out? ---

Piffle sir, I say again piffle. What about us poor buggers in the UK? Nothing but sun, sun and more bloody sun: day after day and we aint used to it. 3 or 4 days at most of sunshine and then we’re buggered (figuratively speaking) Rain we can handle but nothing like this phenomenon. Any day now our noble Govt. will declare a state of drought and the whole country will have to bathe in beer 😃 ---

I like seeing the sun as much as the next person, but this time of year I’d rather have the fog to keep things cool. Went outdoors to put some clothes on the line, damn near melted in those 10 minutes. And I’m not the kind of person who needs to lose any water-weight. I don’t even know what the temperature is, I just know it’s too hot. ---

Not ideal, but can’t you just get some pasta salad from the nearest deli or grocery store? Failing that, most stores sell bottled water that can be used to boil pasta. If you’ve already got the pasta and other stuff, that may be cheaper than buying ready-made. How did this yutz flood the place with an air conditioner to the point that the building water was shut off? I can offer tons of sympathy for no water and for no elevators, but no sympathy for the weather as it’s even hotter over here. It was 107 yesterday afternoon for us. They say Palm Springs was cooking at 102 degrees last night. At 10:30. :eek: We were simmering along at 85 at that same time. Really strange weather - hot is normal for this microclimate, but it’s usually more desert-like in that it can be 100+ in the daytime, but drops to the 60s at night. ---

Yesterday it was 126F in Death Valley. That I can understand. But 106F in Bismark? That’s just wrong. ---

It’s supposed to hit 100 here today, with a heat index of 106. I went to a funeral yesterday, and the guys in suits were really suffering. It would be considerate of people to avoid dying during hot weather. ---

Yesterday I made the mistake of walking to the local store, it was 108. Got there, downed a bottole of water and nearly threw up. It’s expected to be 111 today, I just typed that and it still doesn’t feel right. I’m in Stockton btw. ---

Humidity is only 33%, which is a dramatic improvement on the normal state of affairs. I feel far more comfortable walking around today than i did last week, when the temperature was in the mid-80s but humidity was up over 90%. ---
