I think the OP is completely right. To me it’s not even a matter of giving up her seat to be polite, or that not giving it up was impolite… but that the couple, who came into the movie late felt ENTITLED to a seat that they wanted that happened to already be taken, after entering the movie several minutes after it had started and thinking they can start making demands and act like childish brats when they don’t get their way. Tough shit. If you want to have your choice of prime seating, get there earlier. The fact that they were texting during the movie and not paying attention makes me view them even less favorably. ---

I’m with the people who don’t see any heroes here. Yes, the people who came into the move late looking for prime real estate were clearly dicks for asking, and even more so for getting ugly afterward, but getting into arguments with them is also stupid as well as annoying and disruptive to others. If I were there, I’d think both of you were jerks. As \*\*msmith537 \*\*says, why didn’t you put your coat on the buffer seat or just claim it was taken? What’s the point of making a show of refusing to move? Then why the hell get into an argument with the people? The movie is going, just shake your head at them and go back to the movie. The tone of it (maybe not the intent, but the tone) sounds like you are trying to teach them a lesson. ---

I don’t even see any ambiguity. When you walk into a movie theater, especially late, you don’t get choice seating… your “choice” is between whatever seats are left over, and if you want to sit next to someone you came with, find two seats together. That’s all the “choice” you get if you show up late. If the seats in the OP’s row were the only ones left when the couple arrived, her denial of their request would have been rude. You are here asking for some sort of moral or ethical reinforcement about your decision - of which didn’t seem inappropriate to begin with (logically speaking) and did not result in any catastrophic events? This sounds more suitable for Facebook where all your friends and cronies can boost you up for ‘doing the right thing,’ ‘you go girl!’ ---

I don’t get it. Why would you ask someone to move in a theatre? If I arrive late to a movie, I get in, I look for a seat for me and my partner and I take the seats. If there are better single seats available, I don’t go and ask people to move just so I can have the better seats, I take the best seats that are already together. I honestly don’t get what this poster has done that is wrong. ---

Yeah fuck that shit. She didn’t owe anybody anything, and if there were plenty of seats free in the rows in front of her then she doesn’t have to move if she doesn’t want too. Making other patrons have to move when there are plenty of seats free is complete arseholeness.
