Same attitude as in the OP. So, I went back and reviewed your posts to see if you answered my questions and you had not. You did answer the question about if someone arrived 10 minutes early, but you didn’t answer the question about knowing what their reason for being late was. Here’s another question: you said they were 5 minutes late but we all know that there are about 20 to 25 minutes of ads and trailers before the movie begins. Were they 5 minutes late as in the lights went down 5 minutes ago and the screen is telling you how much popcorn is, or were they 25 minutes late so the movie actually had started? ---

Researcher checking in! Glad to know that some people found my “research” (I wasn’t sure if I needed to use scare quotes too. What’s the etiquette on that?) useful. I simply like knowing how things factually play out, so I thought that would be helpful. I had no idea that those who fell on the less represented side would either completely ignore any meaning behind the data or, horror of horrors (oh noes!) laugh at my earnestness. I shall forever be wounded by that and can’t imagine what I’ll do to compensate. We set on the outside (again to compensate for that knee) and somewhere in the early innings, a guy arrived to join what looked like his girlfriend in the row directly behind us. They asked someone back there to accommodate his new arrival and they refused. We overheard and, since there were buffers around us, agreed to scootch together to make room. At least this time, the husband’s knee got to remain where there was space. Unfortunately, that game was still miserable and I’m sure those folks were even happier when we left early and then there was plenty of open chairs again. That’s all I’ve ever personally witnessed though. I’m in Texas, if that matters. ---
