Bears for example, don’t hibernate, yet don’t defecate when in their winters den. (I will have to check Google if they urinate.) Pregnant females give birth, and the cubs nurse, but adult bears sleep the entire time. NASA has certainly studied animal hibernation, to understand how it occurs, in order to possibly replicate it, in humans, for long space trips. ---

Missed edit window: EDIT They don’t pee. And we’ve redefined hibernation to include what they do, since their core body temperature doesn’t drop like a smaller mammal. Yeah, that does need some treknobabble magic, I’ll admit. ---

Cell processes are still going on. Maybe in the chambers they were intravenously hooked up to nourishement, and catherized. They just didn’t show that on camera - it was the 60s, after all. 🙂 But since Khan’s group went 200 years, they were a bit damaged coming out. It would be like 2/3 of a year flat on your back. It was just their superior physiques that made it possible - a normal human wouldn’t have made it. ---

Watched it last night - biggest surprise for me is that “Joachim” was actually named. I never noticed. All these years (no I didn’t read the credits for some reason either) I just thought Joachim was made up for TWoK and everyone just projected back.😃 The remastered shots with the Botany Bay were pretty good. And Kirk can be as forgiving as Picard. I don’t think I’d let them run around loose. Also, Kirk is far too trusting. “Here, read all the technical manuals. Learn about every system on the ship. What? What can go wrong there?” And, “Here - let me lock you, an evil tryant with stated ambitions to take the ship, in your quarters rather than the brig, and just use one guard. Everything will be just fine.” Another episode where I’d consider court martialing Kirk for gross negligence. ---

The remastering should have added all kinds of sparks and flashes when Khan crushed the phaser in his hand. And when Kirk pulled out the control rod he bashed Khan with. 🆒 ---
