I got bored, so I started to look up previous crap I had posted. I made the mistake of going into the Pit to do the search. I came up with a few threads that I had started, and I started reading them. And becoming horrified. OH. MY. GOD. Not ONLY can I not spell, but I’m stupid, too. Like in [this](http://http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=134733&highlight=magic8ball) thread. HELLO. Can I not be even more arrogent? Can I not learn how to spell? I would just like to say that after that 6 week period I got the job back again, as well as another one. I’m currently unemplyed at the moment, though, at the pain of my empty wallet. But still… I feel like smacking myself upside the head. In fact, I already have. I’m an idiot. I can’t believe I said shit like that. I started blushing the second I finished reading my OP. My only excuse is youth, but thats not really valid because that thread was started last October, and that was 7 months ago… I was 15 then, and I’m 15 now. Heh, well I seem to recall I considered it back a while ago. Then I thought about what I was like when I was around your age\* (not so long ago… I’m not that old) and realised that I was a hell of a lot worse. 😉 Once given the ‘she’s a teenager cut her some slack’ and a charitable ignoring of some of your really early posts, there didn’t seem a whole lot to complain about. Having from time to time noticed your posts since, the slack-cutting has become increasingly less and less neccesary. Pretty much non-existent as of this post. As you say, it’s only been seven months, but seven months can be a long time in terms of maturing. I’d like to think that the SDMB helps with that - I’m not a major contributor here, but I read it a lot, and I think the exposure to the different viewpoints and people helps a lot in developing a sense of maturity and perspective. Incidentally, I’m pretty certain that were I to read my posts to various sites from 5 years ago (when I was 15), my reaction would closely mirror yours. Don’t worry about it. You are defined by what you do, not by what you did. All that being said, if you still want to be tarred and feathered… no? Well, ok then. Welcome to the SDMB, the new Miss Magic8Ball. Look, kid. You’re a child. I know you don’t think of yourself that way, but it’s the truth. Things that are objectively trivial are going to disproportionaltely affect you, you don’t have much practical life experience, all of your peers are just as messed up as you are, and to top it all off your body is going through growth and changes it hasn’t seen since you were a baby, and never will again. Worse yet, it gets tougher from here on out. It’s kind of expected that you’ll be goofy. All teens are. All of them. You have an opportunity here to grow up faster than you would otherwise. I mean that in a good way. Here you can interact with adults and see what mature reasoning\* looks like. Rule number one is “think before you speak.” That translates nicely into “think before you post.” From your OP it looks like you figured that out. Rule number two is “no childish whining.” Looks like you figure that out too. Keep in mind that you are still a kid, and will be prone to relapses. Some of us will make allowances, and some of us won’t. Apology not necessary, but accepted anyway. Good luck. \*Yes, I know. I’m generalizing. ---

Just so you know that I’m not tossing random, useless, generic, boring, disinterested advice at you: You live on an island in the middle of a lake near Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, which is damned close to any reasonable definition to “the middle of nowhere.” You have to stay with friends 3-5 months out of every year because of the “too much ice for the boat, not enough ice for the truck” thing. Your step-father is an asshole (independently verified by **GingerOfTheNorth** ). Your mother ain’t to swift neither (also independently verified by **Ginger** ). Aunty **Ginger** bolted from Calgary, Alberta or some such place to marry **Weirddave** and live in Baltimore, MD, which is in an entirely different country. You like auntie **Ginger** , uncle **Weird** , and your little cousin, but they’re really far away now, so you feel abandoned. Did I get most of this right? I’ve been paying attention. I want to help. Honestly, all I think you have to do is proofread your posts and really give them a critical look before you hit “submit.” Everything I said in my previous post stands, plus: You _have_ been pitted, and you handled it very well, IMHO. ---

You’re not an English professor, so not having impeccable grammar is an understandable thing. Well, as I think I told you early on, I re-read my first posts awhile ago, and I cringed. Not because of what I said, although I have learned and grown myself since then, but because of the lack of caps and stuff. I had been used to email only, and none of my friends used caps, so I quit using them as well. I quickly realized that I looked like an illiterate dope.
