But that story illustrates quite well the problem global warmers have with perception. people can tell the winters are getting colder, yet the leaders say it;s getting warmer globally. The leaders are obviously fuckheads. It’s like a US politician telling his followers that despite how bad their economy is doing, how bad the foreclosures and layoffs are, how the government is going bankrupt, globally it was the best year ever for profits. China is booming! Russia is doing great! Exxon made record profits last year! Now cheer up everybody! Yeah, that is going to really help people trust you, ---

There’s flood warnings all over California right now. Just one atmospheric river and the Sierras will have all the snow they need, and that can happen in a week. I don’t know where you’re getting your climate data, but in the past 150 years, California has seen severe drought three times before this one. The only difference is there’s a shit-load more people there than in 1976-77. How the hell did Mother Jones get thermometers and rain gauges 500 years ago? ---

This February was the wettest February on record for Oslo. The previous record was 89 mm. The new record is 130 mm. That’s… a bit of an increase. In other parts of the country, on the other hand, this winter has been so dry that January saw **three** significant brush fires - one of which came within a scarily small distance of destroying a historic mountain village. Winter brush fires are extremely rare in this country, three in a month is bizarre. It’s a big ol’ planet, all right. ---

The rainfall data for California is excellent, going back 2,5000 years on the coast, and 4000 years in the dry mountains. The periods of extended mega droughts that happened in the past there, it is known climate history. The trees Johnny, only the trees. ---

Climate is actually the average of weather over a time period, for a certain region. The “climate is not weather” mantra is called up when it gets unusually cold, which it does more and more often. When it’s unusually warm, then that’s just called climate change, or global warming. It’s SCIENCE! ---
