> There is nothing in that post about those “lines of evidence” indicating CO2 does not play a role in climate change.

Those who claim to know that CO2 can’t cause any changes are as ignorant as those who are sure it will cause catastrophic warming.

The truth is, nobody knows (yet) what the changes mankind has wrought. Obviously the early predictions based on runaway and drastic warming were wrong. But, that does not mean there aren’t changes happening.

I can see somebody in Canada has a sense of humor about the early summer snow.

> [@](#):

> **Special weather statement in effect for the City of Calgary**
> First snowfall of the season is possible Monday, which everybody else in Canada will rightly make fun of you for, especially Edmonton.
> Summer will stick around for one more day in Southern Alberta before an intense cold from moves through on Monday, thereby ruining everything.
> This cold front is currently producing rain over Northern Alberta. However, for many areas of Western Alberta an unseasonably cold Arctic airmass will cause rain to change to snow on Monday, which will be horrible. Current guidance suggests over 5 centimetres of snow is possible for these regions. Some people will try to be positive and say “Winter is my favourite time of year!”, but they are wrong and you should ignore them.

**Unusual Global Warming event last Thursday**
Published: Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

Well so much for so-called Global Warming, in this part of the woods anyway. Last year we had 18 inches to three feet of snow, depending where you were in the Hills, from a storm that started Oct. 4, which pretty much put a halt to all activity. Cattle wet from the initial rain perished when temperatures dropped and snow drove them into low spots where they were buried and suffocated. Everyone thought Oct. 4 was a bit early for such a winter event and many were caught off guard.

Last Thursday it started snowing early in the morning and by daylight we had 7-9 inches of snow on the ground, again depending on where you lived in the Custer area. This time we broke a record that has stood since 1888 when records started to be kept, and made national news on such outlets as the Weather Channel and national and cable networks. It’s still summer, for crying out loud! If this is any indication of what our winter will be like, we’re in for another long one.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City said there were reports of seven inches of snow north of Custer early last Thursday. We can attest to that as we had more than that at our house south of Custer that same time. Tree branches were really sagging under the heavy, wet snow load. Thankfully there wasn’t any ice to freeze on the power lines and the wind was not blowing. Blacktop and concrete surfaces still retained some heat, so the snow that did fall melted when it hit the ground.

We don’t know about you, but we are getting a little tired of all the so-called global warming scare tactics.

Southern California just had a big rainstorm (moist air moving up from the hurricane off Baja California.) So I guess the drought is over…

Cali didn’t get that much rain ([source](http://www.intellicast.com/National/Precipitation/Weekly.aspx)) but certainly the drought in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and other areas that received heavy rain are out of the woods.

This has happened many times before. Tropical moisture and cyclones relieve the dry conditions. Fill the reservoirs, it’s nothing new or unusual.

And it’s often exactly how a drought ends in that area.

Meh. From [the article](http://online.wsj.com/articles/climate-science-is-not-settled-1411143565):

> [@](#):
>
> The crucial scientific question for policy isn’t whether the climate is changing. That is a settled matter: The climate has always changed and always will. Geological and historical records show the occurrence of major climate shifts, sometimes over only a few decades. We know, for instance, that during the 20th century the Earth’s global average surface temperature rose 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
>
> Nor is the crucial question whether humans are influencing the climate. That is no hoax: There is little doubt in the scientific community that continually growing amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, due largely to carbon-dioxide emissions from the conventional use of fossil fuels, are influencing the climate. There is also little doubt that the carbon dioxide will persist in the atmosphere for several centuries. The impact today of human activity appears to be comparable to the intrinsic, natural variability of the climate system itself.
>
> Rather, the crucial, unsettled scientific question for policy is, “How will the climate change over the next century under both natural and human influences?” Answers to that question at the global and regional levels, as well as to equally complex questions of how ecosystems and human activities will be affected, should inform our choices about energy and infrastructure.

I think the majority of climate scientists would agree with the third paragraph. Unfortunately, most of the denialists like FX are stuck on paragraph number 2.

[Desperate Denier] Okay the climate is heating up.

It’s not even that good. For the last 20 years or more he’s been an administrator.

And when you read his opinion, it’s that of an administrator, i.e. "not enough information to support ‘good’ policy. There never is.

He’s just muddying the water. Which should be unsurprising given where the opinion piece was published. He knows where is bread is buttered.

Pretty much what they said. It’s basically a load of FUD from someone who is not an expert in the field. We’re facing a major shift in climate, caused by humans, but we can’t make rational policy decisions to try to curb that because nature is complex? Since when did conservatives stop being worried about the complications of things? I’d snark about them hyping up every possible tiniest consequence of Obamacare, regardless of how weak the evidence was, but that’s not a fair comparison, because _we know a fuck-ton more about climate change and its consequences_. The actual climatologists are the ones who are worried. This guy is just a moron. Even if the evidence wasn’t as good as it is now that our CO2 emissions are causing warming and this warming will have significant consequences for the world (stronger hurricanes, more drought, and just generally a change in the conditions our civilization relies on to function), we would still want to say, “We should be careful going forward and do something about this before it bites us in the ass”. You know, basic precaution. But we _do_ have a pretty solid grasp on it. You can say “there’s not enough evidence” basically until the cows come home. Welcome to science denialism 101.
