That’s a vicious lie, FX is chock full of science. He is sick of global warming because “science bitches!” Haven’t you learned that yet?

Agree. That’s why it’s funny when you ask them a simple reasonable question which they cannot answer after a few minutes of frantic Googling on Skepticalscience or Realclimate.

Yeah, but when you use logic and reason, and you stay calm, they just run away at some point. Like in this other topic, when I started asking direct questions about the following post.

> [@Why don't climate change deniers publish?](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/why-dont-climate-change-deniers-publish/678811/145):

When it got to the point where there was no choice but answer, the topic went cold. No response.

It happens pretty much anytime you get somebody to the point where if they answer, they know there is a good chance they will sound like an insane person. Some psychological mechanism kicks in, and they just get quiet.

One thing about comedy, is that not everyone is going to laugh about the same thing. The assumption that your view of irony, or humor, is the only correct one, and that anyone laughing at you must be seriously wrong about what is funny, that is both ironic, and terribly amusing.

No, it’s not funny to you. It’s funny to me! And as Mel Brooks said, "Tragedy is when I cut my finger; comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die”.

That could be possible, but the troll wasn’t responding at that point. After the obvious troll (or it could be a Poe), I asked a simple question.

The question still stands.

Do you agree with that claim?

“Climate-change denial is, at best, criminally-negligent homicide.”

The ironic humor is, that some people don’t see that claim as trolling, stupid or actually insane, if it’s serious.

But asking you to answer if you agree with it, that is trolling.

Priceless.

I guess I’m going to have to explain one of the long running jokes here, since nobody, and I mean nobody seems to read links. The SCIENCE! is from the email mentioned above.

> [@](#):
>
> Do not start to dilute or confuse the issue with too much additional detail. The job , as you state , is to place on record the statement of disagreement with the **SCIENCE!** and spin.

Now both sides in the climate wars seem to be complete idiots when it comes to the climategate emails. The true believer won’t read them, because they already know there is nothing in them, and the deniers only focus on the part they care of don’t care about, missing out on the Science(!) completely.

But the actual science being discussed in them, it’s priceless. You just don’t get to peer into the inner workings of the top researchers in a field very often. (like, never)

These emails are an actual treasure trove of science discussions, covering most of the most contentious subjects involved in global warming. For example

> [@](#):
>
> I agree with Tom’s point that in many case precipitation indicators don’t tell us much at all about the surface temperature field, certainly in the ‘local’ sense. In a sort of ‘state space’ sense, however, they may in some instances be quite helpful. Winter drought-sensitive tree-ring chronologies provide us some of our best proxy information with regard to winter synoptic-scale variability in semi-arid regions like the desert southwest or the mediterannean. There appears to been some success (i.e., demonstrated statistical skill) in reconstructing patterns of anomalous atmospheric circulation related to the usual suspect sorts of indices (PNA, NAO, etc.) from those sorts of proxies. To the extent that much of the regional winter season variability in the extratropical surface temperature field is related to these sorts of atmospheric circulation anomalies, one expects some skill in using these predictors to reconstruct features of the cold-season atmospheric circulation and, thus, regional temperature anomalies related to those features. I think a good case has been made that we can, perhaps, understand a good detail of the structure of the extratropical winter temperature anomalies during parts of the ‘LIA’ in terms of, e.g., the behavior of the NAO–a lot of evidence now seems to be pointing in that direction. A similar argument can be made, for example, that a precipitation proxy in the western tropical Pacific may be an excellent predictor of SST variability in the eastern and central tropical Pacific, for the obvious reasons. So, in this larger-scale sense, there are some potentially useful relationships, and I agree with what Kevin says in this regard. Of course, it is also true that there are some obvious stationarity assumptions implicit in this sort of reasoning, and in the use of any proxy precip/drought/atmospheric circulation information to infer or help reconstruction features in the surface temperature field. There are, however, similar stationarity assumptions implicit in the idea that a modest network (say, of a dozen) proxy surface temperatures over, say, the Northern Hemisphere, can be used to reconstruct hemispheric mean temperature. The implicit assumption is that the relative importance of each of a small number of locations in estimating the large-scale temperature field remains constant over time. As the number of regions sampled approaches the number of degrees of freedom in the surface temperature field, this because a better and better assumption. If were only talking about a handful of locations, it may be a pretty bad assumption. This sort of stationarity assumption is potentially just as, or even more (depending on the size of the network used) suspect than the former stationarity assumption, but is much more rarely discussed or acknowledge. Of course, there are ways to test these sorts of assumptions in a modeling context, and there are several studies now published, and others in the works, , that suggest the situation probably isn’t as bad as we might have feared

Of course most people TEGO and they can’t fathom actually reading that, and understanding what it means. (these are the same people who will argue forever online, but would never spend a month doing any study)

Myself, I find climategate a very educational subject. Ignore the obvious bad behavaior, the skullfuckery and deceptions you come across. Focus on the Science(!) and spin.

You have to enjoy the sheer insanity of the climate alarmists mental state. In that strange fuckhead world, it’s OK to claim “talking about climate” is the same as killing people. Or to claim linking to scientific data pages, is the same as “criminally-negligent homicide”.

The ratshit insane alarmists can’t actually see how they appear to rational people. So instead of, you know, actually discussing something, they say stupid shit. But it’s the lack of response from all the other people, who simply won’t touch it, won’t even acjnowledge it, that’s where it gets creepy fucking weird.

Here’s a bit of science, from Jana Sillmann \*et al \*2014

> [@](#):
>
> Here we assess trend patterns in temperature extremes and evaluate the consistency between observed and simulated temperature extremes over the past four decades (1971?2010) in comparison to the recent 15 years (1996?2010). We consider the coldest night and warmest day in a year in the observational dataset HadEX2 and in the current generation of global climate models (CMIP5). In general, the observed trends fall within the simulated range of trends, with better consistency for the longer period. Spatial trend patterns differ for the warm and cold extremes, with the warm extremes showing continuous positive trends across the globe **and the cold extremes exhibiting a coherent cooling pattern across the Northern Hemisphere mid-latitudes that has emerged in the recent 15 years and is not reproduced by the models.**

If you have been following at all for the last year and half, you already know what that means, which is good because that isn’t fucking clear at all to most people. Most people can read the money shot at the end and not get it at all.

> [@](#):
>
> This regional inconsistency between models and observations might be a key to understanding the recent hiatus in global mean temperature warming.

In essence, it means the colder trend for NH winters seems to be the actual fucking goddamn reason the annual mean isn’t rising.

In other words, the much colder winters, are so fucking cold, it brings the entire annual mean down. Spring and summer didn’t stop warming, that is obvious from the data. Just like it’s obvious from the data that NH winters got a lot fucking colder.

You add the two together, and you get a yearly mean that looks flat, or slightly cooling. But in reality, the warming didn’t stop, it’s just that the winters got fucking cold, and by adding the entire year together, to get the “annual value”, it makes it look like the warming stopped, or “paused”. (one reason why using the yearly mean isn’t a very good way to look at climate)

When it reality, it’s a major fucking climate change, no doubt about it at this point.

Not that facts like that will matter at all.

Here’s some more science! that will of course be seen as trolling by the fuckhead warmer. (Here’s a clue, I could give a fuck what they think)

Now that’s scientific talk, which goddamn scientists really need to stop doing, but good luck changing that monolithic society, it ain’t going to happen. I would explain what it means, but goddamn, that would be just more dishonesty, according to the fuckheads of the world.

OK not really, they didn’t explain shit. But at least they are suggesting (finally) that the goddamn cold might be the reason for the “pause” in the warming trend.
