I’m not interested in playing games, but I’m happy to show you where you claimed that

In post number 3592 I asked this:

> [@](#):
>
> Do you think anyone in this thread disputes “global warming” as you have defined it? . . .

And you responded in post #3605 as follows:

> [@](#):
>
> FXMastermind certainly has.

Therefore you have claimed that **FXMastermind** disputes “global warming” as you have defined it.

And you defined “global warming” in post #3583 as follows:

> [@](#):
>
> Global warming means that the earth – the biosphere, deep oceans, atmosphere – there’s probably a technical term for this – is getting hotter. The temperatures are rising. **The sea and air temperature are greater than they were a century ago.**

> [@](#):
>
> Not where I responded to what you said, but where I actually said, “ **FXMastermind** has disputed that global temperatures rose over the past 100 years.”
>
> Because, I never actually said that. You did, and I responded.

No, you did not explicitly state “ **FXMastermind** has disputed that global temperatures rose over the past 100 years.”

But you know perfectly well that you claimed he had disputed it.

Are you taking it back now?

> [@](#):
>
> If you really want the truth, why not ask him? He’s right here.

I already asked him and he told me that he did not dispute it.

So it seems you are attacking a nice fat straw man.

> [@](#):
>
> You’re too busy playing the “Show me” game

I’m simply asking you to back up what you say. I backed up what I said, but you refuse to back up what you say. I wonder why.

> [@](#):
>
> (and, when anyone else plays that game against you, you play the “I’m not your research assistant” game) to demonstrate any interest in the truth.

Nonsense, you are simply trying to shift the burden of proof. You’re the one who made a claim about **FXMastermind** ’s position. Please substantiate it.

In other words, put up or shut up. Although somehow I expect you will do neither.

P.S. Please answer my question from before:

Are you seriously asserting that rejecting the “hockey stick” graph is equivalent to denying that temperatures have increased over the last 100 years?

It’s a very simple yes or no question.

Why won’t you answer it? Is it so painful to admit that you are ignorant about the hockey stick graph?

You know, we have managed to avoid that abortion of a scientific paper for a long time now. Do you really want to fling it around at this point? It’s not going to make any difference to the closed mind.

If you read both of those pages, in either order, you would think the stick is either completely debunked, or it is the one true representation of past global climate. Which almost sums up the current clusterfuck that is the “debate over global warming”.

When it’s a war, there can be no middle ground.

Not really. There’s no point in discussing it if the warmists refuse to even understand what the actual controversy is.

**Trinopus** seems to think that the hockey stick controversy is whether temperatures have increased over the last 100 years. Just by looking at the graph, you can see this is not so. With someone such as **Trinopus** who is so close-minded and so immune to logic or reason, there’s not much point in going further.

Lol, looks like you get the unintended self-irony award of the week.

You are the one who refuses to back up your claims.

You are the one who refuses to answer simple, reasonable questions about your position.

Yet again:

1. Are you seriously asserting that rejecting the “hockey stick” graph is equivalent to denying that temperatures have increased over the last 100 years?

Simple yes or no question.

1. Please either back up your claim that **FXMastermind** disputes that temperatures have increased over the last 100 years or admit that you have misstated his position.

In other words, put up or shut up.

Although somehow I doubt you will do either.

I thought [a warm December in Alaska](http://www.livescience.com/39819-ancient-forest-thaws.html) was all the evidence we need to know things are worse than they have ever been.

This topic is fucking confusing as hell.

1000, or 2000 years ago, in any case, it makes it seem like it was much warmer there in the past, than it has been lately. That sort of thing makes it hard to scare people about global warming. (damn you mother nature, always fucking with science like that)

I bet we can find a story that still says we should still be worried.

> Understanding that glaciers have advanced and retreated historically is not a reason to set aside concern about anthropogenic (human-caused) climate change today. We have a history of ice ages, and small alterations in the Earth’s orbit do, over the span of tens or hundreds of thousands of years, slightly alter the energy balance by changing how much sunlight reaches different latitudes, but those are slow processes. The changes happening now are occurring at lightning speed compared to climate shifts of the past. Warming is escalating: Earth has warmed twice as fast in the last 50 years as in the 50 years prior.

Do you have a cite for this?

And, yes, there actually are ways of analyzing the air from times that long ago. Some are indirect, but a few, such as analyzing gas trapped in various kinds of bubbles – amber, ice, etc. – are direct.

Who says the levels of CO2 in the air were higher in A.D. 1 than they are today?

Yeah… Personally I base my understanding of climate change on the thousands of scientists that have earned degrees from the 40 odd or 60 odd (or whatever) universities that offer degrees in climate science. Al Gore is a politician and a loser besides. Science fiction writes are science fiction writers. FXMasterbater is a fucking moron. So the fuck what?

If you want to get you understanding of this very complex topic from reading science fiction books or message boards go right ahead. Hell, get you information from Fox news; I don’t really give a shit. My apathy on this topic is the main reason I don’t participate in this fucking train wreck of a thread starring the oil company shill and his lapdog. But realize that when you get your understanding of the science from the sources you do what side it puts you on. You are equivalent to a fucking anti-vaxer that is basing your evaluation of the science based on shit spouted by Jenny McCarthy. You are the moron in the new age shop buying the crystals to purge your negative energy and hoping that the water with the memory of having some fucking herbs in it is going to cure your cancer. You are the credulous person denying evolution in the face of antibiotic resistant bacterial because there are still monkeys in the world. You have surrendered your intelligence to faith and ideology. Good for fucking you! It takes courage to bet your future and your children’s future on a stance rejected by every scientific organization in the world, every insurance company, every government. You are a fucking brave moron. You go.

Thanks for answering. Yes, of course the theory has predicted winter warming. In fact, we should see the most warming during the NH winter (boreal winter), which is exactly why observing the opposite has created such interest in the current situation. Certainly the theory doesn’t predict, or explain, cooling for the boreal winters.

> [@Trinopus](#):

[Here’s some info on the difference between climate and weather](http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/noaa-n/climate/climate_weather.html#.VLPLmSvF-Sp).

> [@Trinopus](#):

> The best you can do is point to certain specific localities and limited periods of time.

Your claim makes no sense. I’ve quoted and linked to half a dozen papers, and plenty of sources, to show a cooling winter trend, as well as theories about why it might be happening.

Yet you still claim it’s not happening, or if it is, so what?

Your ignorance is amazing.

[The cooling is widespread](http://iopscience.iop.org/1748-9326/7/1/014007/pdf/1748-9326_7_1_014007.pdf), not local. [The trends go very far back](http://web.mit.edu/jlcohen/www/papers/Cohenetal_NGeo14.pdf), and are long enough now [to be considered due to a forcing](https://www.aer.com/node/740), not just random natural variation. [Predictions of warmer winters](http://www.grida.no/publications/other/ipcc_sr/?src=/Climate/IPCC/regional/310.htm) have been [shown to be wrong at this point](http://www.grida.no/publications/other/ipcc_tar/?src=/climate/ipcc_tar/wg1/455.htm). The [assumptions about global warming](http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/news/19990602/) were considered proven far too early, and [it’s very hard for many people to admit this](http://www.pnas.org/content/109/11/4074.abstract?ijkey=43f7c9c9b9116e735e64ac4f0bf737b9e17b548f&keytype2=tf_ipsecsha).

[It’s not just the theory about early Siberian snow](http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/04/100415080848.htm) being put forth over the issue. Though sea ice loss [seems to be a very good theory](http://iopscience.iop.org/1748-9326/8/1/014036/pdf/1748-9326_8_1_014036.pdf), the idea that [the sun is causing the colder winters](http://news.agu.org/press-release/link-found-between-cold-european-winters-and-solar-activity/) is also valid, and supported by evidence.

IMNSHO, it’s too early to tell, [not that such a thing is a problem](http://www.bitsofscience.org/study-arctic-warming-cold-winter-hypothesis-6089/) for those researching this.

And no, I don’t expect most people to read those links, all of which support what I have out forth in this topic.

> Globally? Yes.

Thank you for answering. The issue of winter warming is truly odd, especially how it changed in recent years. It’s common knowledge that both theory and models predict the most warming in winter. And certainly warmer winters, with less snow, have been projected for decades now.

> [@Trinopus](#):
>
> Globally, winters are getting warmer.

Let me use your own words in response to that claim. Do you have a cite for this?

> [@Trinopus](#):
>
> Do you have a cite for this?

You clearly seem intent on winters warming. This is at odds with recent developments, in which the mainstream went from claiming “a cold winter doesn’t mean anything in regards to climate”, to the recent “colder winters are due to global warming”.

> [@Trinopus](#):
>
> The best you can do is point to certain specific localities and limited periods of time.

You seem a bit dense in regards to this. Are you now arguing against the mainstream, which is now claiming colder winters are due to global warming, are you saying they are wrong? And the winters are warming?

[That harsh winter that we are experiencing, it is not proof that global warming is not happening, but rather serves as proof that it is indeed happening](http://www.skepticalscience.com/Global-Warming-Cold-Winters.html)

[Global warming set to bring colder, snowier winters](http://environmentalresearchweb.org/cws/article/news/48293)

> [@Trinopus](#):
>
> “What part of average do you not understand?”

You ask that, but there is no context to it. it’s a meaningless question, as well as a fallacy (leading question)

I know you are little slow, so let me help. A leading question is where you aren’t really asking a question, but trying to lead the listener to a conclusion. It’s a fallacy, which means “a failure in reasoning that renders an argument invalid”. So asking a leading question just makes you look bad, not the person you are trying to deceive.

If you are trying to persuade that winters, on average, are getting warmer globally, you need to say that, and show evidence. not ask stupid questions. Don’t be dumb.

On average, most of the NH is experiencing a trend of colder winters, and the snow extent and cover is increasing. This means, on average, winters are getting colder. The trend has no one start date, but covers most of the NH, with even some tropical areas showing the trend since 2007, but that is too short of a time period to mean much.

Some areas the trend starts in the eighties, but most areas the nineties, but the majority of the NH land data shows a cooling trend for boreal winters now.

So much it actually influences the annual global mean.

According to [this](http://www.climatecentral.org/news/winters-are-warming-all-across-the-us-15590), winter temps are warming in the US in all but one state. And [this](http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/nmaps.cgi?sat=4&sst=3&type=anoms&mean_gen=1106&year1=2014&year2=2014&base1=1951&base2=1980&radius=1200&pol=rob) seems to be showing a general warming of the NH in the winter between 1951 and 2014.

I’m not sure where you are getting your assertion that winters are colder from, but leaving aside perhaps an odd year where that’s true the trend seems pretty clear that it is getting warmer in the winter when you average across the whole of either the NH or the globe (as opposed to looking at and focusing on a specific state or region).

ETA: Sorry, [this](http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/nmaps.cgi?sat=4&sst=3&type=anoms&mean_gen=1106&year1=2014&year2=2014&base1=1951&base2=2014&radius=1200&pol=rob) map for 1951-2014…the other was something else.

I believe **FX** is pointing out that the winter NH trend between 1980 and present is neutral or slight warming in most studies , and 1990 to present is neutral or colder in most studies, and that it’s highly asymmetrical by region.

While that has squat to do with global warming, it’s also not true. When FX wants to try and show cooling trends, he more typically cherry picks 1998 as the starting point. That alone signifies that he doesn’t believe his bullshit and is simply trolling.

Winter trends:

[1980 to present](http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/nmaps.cgi?sat=4&sst=3&type=trends&mean_gen=1203&year1=1980&year2=2014&base1=1951&base2=1980&radius=1200&pol=rob)

[1990 to present](http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/nmaps.cgi?sat=4&sst=3&type=trends&mean_gen=1203&year1=1990&year2=2014&base1=1951&base2=1980&radius=1200&pol=rob)

North America had a cooling trend from 1990 to present, but North America is not representative of the Northern Hemisphere.
