>

No, and if I ever did such an idiot thing, it would be a satire of those who do that exact thing all the time, with both heat waves and even a weather event.

> [@Trinopus](#):
>
> Global Warming (i.e., the warming of the globe, not the other meaning you’ve chosen to Humpty Dumpty it) means – the entire globe. The whole of the earth. Some parts will become hotter. Others might not. But the overall average is…warmer.

That isn’t what global warming means at all. You are an idiot if you really think that.

> [@Trinopus](#):
>
> This is simple high school physics. .

No, it’s not. But simple minds think it is, so they get lost when you discuss theory. The concept of greenhouse forcing is simple, but not what is expected to result, that is far from a simple matter.

> By definition, forcings are external to the climate system while feedbacks are internal; in essence, feedbacks represent the internal processes of the system. Some feedbacks may act in relative isolation to the rest of the climate system; others may be tightly coupled; hence it may be difficult to tell just how much a particular process contributes. That is wrong of course, but it is Wikipedia, so nobody will be that surprised. In reality there are all kinds of assumed feedbacks for climate change, and the most important ones are all in the polar regions, or directly connected to them.

> You fail at simple high school physics when you imply that a cold snap in Boston disproves global warming.

You can keep doing your duck speak, but it isn’t going to matter from a scientific POV. As was discussed elsewhere, the effects from AGW are numerous, and the theory and models of what is expected are very complicted, not some dumb idea “the whole world will get warmer”, which is idiotic.

The MIT model (based on theory) predicts that continued warming will be from increases in SW, not LW radiation. Consensus theory of CO2 warming does not predict this.

Their models also use an increase in SW due to more open water, less ice and snow, changes in vegetation from warming, all of which will increase SW warming. If Cohen’s theory that the cooling NH winter trend, from CO2 caused warming, ( more open water due to decreased arctic sea ice leading to more early snow in Siberia), if that is actually true, then the expected warming the MIT models predict won’t happen in winter at all. In fact, if the cooling trend is really caused by warming, then the basic global warming theory is wrong. The predictions of the most warming in winter, at high latitudes, and over land rather than oceans, is all wrong.

None of that is fact, which is why you see “if that is true”, and “if the cooling trend is really caused”. None of those are facts, but it is reasoning, theory, hypothesis, conjecture and thinking about possible results, which is exactly why I stated science deals with more than facts.

The idea that “it will get warmer” and “it’s basic physics” is the idiot curse of bad science and the idiot press.

FYI, a scientific theory is made up of many parts, many of them basic physics. Saying a theory is wrong does not mean the basic principles or axioms in a theory are wrong. That view is idiotic. If somebody was objecting to E=MC2, they aren’t saying that the speed of light is wrong, or that there is no matter or energy. They are objecting to the = sign, or the squaring of the speed of light.

I think what he’s trying to say is that he didn’t accuse me of misquoting HIM, he accused me of misquoting someone else.

It seems he is weaseling, but if that’s his position fine.

He just needs to identify the poster I supposedly misquoted and link to the posts in question.

**Trinopous** , just post the name of the poster you claim I misquoted and link to the post where I supposedly misquoted this person. It should be pretty easy to do if you are not lying.

[source](http://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/2015/03/17/snowpredictor/zpURnRt5fv7Waxwb04cRzK/story.html)

> [@](#):
>
> “I’m really happy,” he says with a grin, sitting in his small, neat office dominated by a huge computer screen that seems in constant motion as he pulls up this weather map or that satellite image. “I thought we did a very good job predicting it.” In fact, his forecast proved better than that of the federal government.

There are few feelings as good as being a scientist, and being right. I’ve said it in many threads, and certainly it’s a main theme in this one, that it is possible Cohen is right, both in theory and in reality. The sat data for snow cover certainly supports his theory, as does the cooling winter trends for large parts of the northern hemisphere.

> [@](#):
>
> Perhaps Cohen’s biggest claim to fame comes from the fact that he and his team’s seasonal forecasts of “temperature and precipitation anomalies” have been right 75 percent of the time, a rate that tops those of the major government weather centers, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the federal government’s main weather forecaster. (In fact, Cohen and his team, who have been making predictions for 15 years, bestedNOAA this winter.)

As he points out, multiple times in his peer reviewed science papers, consensus models do not predict what has been observed.

> [@](#):
>
> Each October, Cohen looks at the amount and the rate of snowfall in Siberia that month to determine how snowy the eastern United States and Europe will be come winter. “The snow cover is the most efficient reflector of sunlight out into space, so more snow cover creates dense air masses that stay close to the ground,” he says. That cold, dense air spreads over the North Pole into North America and westward into Europe.

Is it from an enhanced greenhouse effect? (that’s a term for what most call global warming)

Is warming actually the cause of the cooling? (it sounds sarcastic, but it’ not, it’s actually a scientific concept). It’s not a new idea, even Callendar was aware before he died, that the observed dropping global temperatures might mean he was wrong. It was a possibility, even as the greenhouse effect increased, that it might cool the planet, rather than warm it. The theory of Maurice Ewing and William L. Donn was fresh and new, and one reason he wasn’t getting much publicity.

But hey, science like that is boring. And let’s face it, the GIGObusters of the world don’t really know that much about weather, climate or science. For example, the fuckheads of the world dismiss, argue, or claim shit like the following is meaningless. (and yet, he will read all of this, unlike the real trolls here)

> [@](#):
>
> The earth’s climates have always been changing, and the magnitude of these changes has varied from place to place and from time to time.

From [Understanding Climate Change](http://archive.org/stream/understandingcli00unit/understandingcli00unit_djvu.txt)
Note they said “climates”, and of course they have always changed.

> [@](#):
>
> On a longer time scale, certain decades have striking and anomalous characteristics, such as the severe droughts that affected the American Midwest during the 1870’s, 1890’s, and 1930’s and the high temperatures recorded globally during the 1940’s.

This global peak, followed by a drastic cooling, is a defining event in climate science, and research. It was actually a prime mover for the vast increase in scientific study of both weather and climate. Both the great warming since the LIA, and the global cooling period, they are real things.

> [@](#):
>
> And on still longer time scales, the climatic regimes that dominated certain centuries brought significant changes in the global patterns of temperature, rainfall, and snow accumulation. For example, northern hemisphere winter temperatures from the midfifteenth to the midnineteenth centuries were significantly lower than they are today.

If you only read global alarmists bullshit, you might think this didn’t even happen. Orwell would understand.

> [@](#):
>
> The late nineteenth century represented a period of transition between this cold interval — sometimes known as the Little Ice Age — and the thermal maximum of the 1940’s.

Remember, the climategate emails revealed exactly and with no doubt, that they were conspiring to remove the “blip” of the thermal maximum.

> [@](#):
>
> If you look at the attached plot you will see that the land also shows the 1940s blip (as I’m sure you know). So, if we could reduce the ocean blip by, say, 0.15 degC, then this would be significant for the global mean — but we’d still have to explain the land blip. I’ve chosen 0.15 here deliberately. This still leaves an ocean blip, and i think one needs to have some form of ocean blip to explain the land blip (via either some common forcing, or ocean forcing land, or vice versa, or all of these). When you look at other blips, the land blips are 1.5 to 2 times (roughly) the ocean blips — higher sensitivity plus thermal inertia effect

shttp://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2009/11/the-cru-hack/#sthash.2cHxSuQN.dpuf

It was that email, that first got my skeptical interest. Before that, I couldn’t really give a shit about the global warming wars, or anyone who was stupid enough to argue about it on the internet.

Back to the UNITED STATES COMMITTEE FOR THE GLOBAL ATMOSPHERIC RESEARCH PROGRAM

> [@](#):
>
> Some idea of the magnitude of the climatic changes that characterized the Little Ice Age can be gained from a study of proxy or natural records of climate, such as those of alpine glaciers.

This means using glaciers to try and guess what winter and annual temperatures might have been, before there was any global weather network.

> [@](#):
>
> As shown in Figure A.l, as late as the midnineteenth century the termini of these glaciers were still advanced well beyond their present limits.

The same is true for the rest of the glaciers, something that the alarmists just furiously hand waves away, rather than facing head on.

And now, since I am done with this idiot topic, here’s a short list of things that are sickening about global warming.

Not in any order.

Idiots who keep claiming victory, when they should be doing research.

Morons who think they are saying something profound by claiming “global warming, it’s simple physics”

Asshats who repeat lies, like “climategate meant nothing, nobody did anything wrong”

Anyone who uses insulting terms to describe their “enemies”, which is defined as anyone who disagrees with them. Those people are stupid.

Anyone who doesn’t understand sarcasm and irony, or why it’s a valid response to mind numbing fuckheadedness online

The constant spin on everything

The level of [two minute hate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Minutes_Hate) used against anything “fossil fuel” related, as well as the blind lockstep mantra of “nuclear is good, nuclear is the answer”

The goddamn winters since 2009, except for 2012 which was OK

a bunch of other stuff except I’m already bored typing this out, and I have to paint the house

And the worst thing of all? Complete fuckheads who want to argue about climate change, who don’t even understand weather yet. For example

And there is the most basic, and stupid, argument used all the time. Both sides do it, but the side claiming the high ground, the global warmers, really should know better.

Why not show a long term trend? Explain about climate? Show how one cold winter in one area of the NH means very little? Why don’t we see that sort of scientific approach?

Instead of [showing the anomaly](http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/nmaps.cgi?sat=4&sst=3&type=anoms&mean_gen=0103&year1=2015&year2=2015&base1=1996&base2=2015&radius=250&pol=rob), show [the trend](http://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/nmaps.cgi?sat=4&sst=3&type=trends&mean_gen=0103&year1=1996&year2=2015&base1=1951&base2=1980&radius=250&pol=rob).

That’s called science, and it’s honest. Don’t fucking dismiss the coldest fucking winter people have ever lived through, and tell them “Yeah, but the entire world is actually warmer than ever”.

That’s fucking stupid. It insults intelligent people, and it really makes the average person think you are some sort of insane shithead.

Not me of course, I know you are just deluded, ignorant and lazy. You are just taking the easy path.

But not everyone is as compassionate and understanding.

So why are so many scientists so totally wrong, according to you? Were they bought off by the unions, and seduced by Al Gore’s massive wealth? There is a clear consensus, and it isn’t yours.

If a scientific notion starts out from a position of massive non-acceptance, and stays that way, its almost certainly wrong. But if enough of the boffin community start out skeptical and later come on board, because data and stuff, its almost certainly right.

Anyway, why is it that everybody is out of step but you and this other guy?
