[Crystal Mountain Ski resort](http://crystalmountainresort.com/), is open for business.

It used to be the earliest opening date was November 4, 2005

So once again, Global Warming has ruined the ski resorts season.

With the first blizzard of this winter already going on in the US, it looks like another brutal global warming has started. Siberia just set a new record low, with record snow.

Antarctic sea ice is at yet another record high. Alaska had the sorter summer on record (the continuous summer thaw season was the shortest ever).

Global warming is proceeding, just like they said it would.

Even when there is simply no way out of being wrong, the alarmists mentality can always find a way to “feel” like they are right. Like the sea level rise problem. When you point out that sea level has been rising at the current rate for 150 years (or more), and that it has both fallen, and rose, in the recent past, you get the mumbo jumbo gigogallop.

See? Pointing out reality is to the warmist, a “strawman”, because “the costs of all those efforts” isn’t added. (What the fuck does that even mean?)

It’s usually an effective tactic for simply stopping all rational discussion. No, that is not " the theory", nor is there any evidence at present that the warming since the LIA has been due to an increase in CO2. The “theory” is that “the warming since the LIA has been due to an increase in CO2”, which is based on CO2 being “the control knob for climate”. That is “the theory”, which insists the sun has almost nothing to do with the climate, and rejects the increase in solar activity as being enough to change the climate. And “the theory” also says a quiet sun did not cause the LIA, or any of the other past climate events. In the words of those who promote the AGW theory, the sun is not even a player in climate change.

No, that is denier talk, even suggesting that the sun will change the climate. If you buy that, you have to also believe the sun could have caused the warming we have seen. It’s heresy.

>
> So we may have a brief reprieve. So I guess it might give us time to get our shit together and actually do something about pumping more C02 into the atmosphere. So that’s good news.

It’s not good news at all to those who have been trying to change the entire world, right now, to “save us” from Global Warming. In fact, it’s really bad news for them.

That does seem to be a problem with **GarbageSpewer**. It appears he doesn’t actually read or understand the points he pretends to respond to. Instead, it seems he just scans for key words or images and finds the closest argument he can on warmist web sites, often just cutting and pasting.

He has little or no comprehension of the arguments he is making or the arguments he is responding to. Probably if you sat him down away from a computer and gave him a paper and pencil test about global warming (limited to non-controversial claims), he would fail miserably.

I think you seriously misunderstand what climate scientists are saying about solar climate forcings (i.e., effects of solar activity on climate change). As [this 2010 paper remarks](http://wires.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WiresArticle/wisId-WCC18.html),

> [@](#):
>
> Today, solar cycles and trends are recognized as important components of natural climate variability on decadal to centennial time scales. Understanding solar‐terrestrial linkages is requisite for the comprehensive understanding of Earth’s evolving environment. The attribution of present‐day climate change, interpretation of changes prior to the industrial epoch, and forecast of future decadal climate change necessitate quantitative understanding of how, when, where, and why natural variability, including by the Sun, may exceed, obscure or mitigate anthropogenic changes.

And it’s a mistake to think that scientists who are interested in anthropogenic climate change in particular aren’t also aware of non-anthropogenic factors like solar forcings. As [realclimate.org](http://realclimate.org)’s Rasmus Benestad [comments](http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2010/03/more-on-sun-climate-relations/comment-page-2/) on the abovementioned paper,

> [@](#):
>
> […] I think her main conclusions are sound (Her estimate of the solar contribution to the global warming over past century – 10% or less – is in good agreement with the figure Gavin [Schmidt] and I got in our analysis).

It’s pretty ridiculous to argue that scientists who study and discuss AGW (among whom [realclimate.org](http://realclimate.org) contributors like Benestad and Schmidt are some of the most active) don’t take solar forcings seriously as “a player in climate change”.
Of course, if what you’re complaining about is not the perspective of actual mainstream climate science but a conveniently unspecified strawman assemblage of “those who promote the AGW theory”, then I guess those strawmen probably do say whatever you want them to say and are just as wrong about it as you want them to be, so you can have the fun of smacking them down for it on the internet.

But it’s rather irresponsible to talk about your imaginary debating buddies in a way that risks conflating them with actual scientists who study climate in serious research.

No, that is NOT the official story at all. Global warming has not stopped, or even slowed. In fact, it has increased. It’s just that now all the heat is going into the deep ocean, so much so that the temperature records actually show it’s cooling, but it’s not, it’s warming.

If this keeps up, the oceans taking all our heat, soon we will experience record cold, even as the world experiences global warming like nobody has ever seen before. The record early cold and snow already happening (again) right now is a sure sign of how bad global warming has become. If the NH winter trend continues, which is now blamed on global warming, the world could be buried by epic snow and ice, with deadly freezing temperatures, as global warming continues it’s deadly advance.

> Millions of people in America and northern Europe are still battling snow and ice, wondering why they are being punished with bitter cold when – officially – spring has arrived and **Earth is in the grip of global warming**.
>
> Yet some scientists, eyeing the fourth year in a row of exceptionally harsh late-winter weather in parts of Europe and North America, suggest **warming is precisely the problem**.

That’s not a joke. It’s serious. The trend of colder winters, with more snow, longer cold periods, even earlier frosts and snow, it’s being blamed on global warming.

> In a complex tango between ocean and atmosphere, warming is causing icy polar air to be displaced southwards, they contend.
>
> “The linkage is becoming clearer and clearer, I think, although the science has not yet been settled,” said Dim Coumou of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) near Berlin.

This line or reasoning actually started in 2010, after record breaking cold and blizzards made it really hard to say the globe was warming.

>
> The theory derives from a long-studied Arctic phenomenon called a positive feedback – in plain words, a vicious circle.
>
> Rising temperatures are melting the Arctic’s floating cap of sea ice, especially in summer.
>
> In 1979, when satellite measurements began, summer ice covered some seven million square kilometres (2.7 million square miles), roughly equivalent to 90 percent the area of Australia.
>
> In September 2012, summer ice hit its lowest extent on record, at just 3.4 million sq. kms (1.31 million sq. miles).
>
> Take away reflective ice, and you have a dark sea that absorbs solar radiation, which in turn reinforces the melting, and so on.

So the warming arctic is causing the fall and winter to be colder in the NH. (the same thing is also happening in the SH, but that is another matter)

> [@](#):
>
> But the theory suggests the added heat, stored over a vast area of surface water, is also gradually released into the atmosphere during the Arctic autumn.
>
> It increases air pressure and moisture in the Arctic, reducing the temperature differential with lower latitudes.
>
> Here’s what happens next: The polar vortex, a powerful circular wind that essentially pens Arctic air to the roof of the world, begins to weaken.
>
> Finding itself released, a mass of moist cold air spills southward, bringing snow and chill down into North America and Europe.
>
> And it tends to stay there, because of what happens to the jet stream.

Sure this may sound like a desperate tactic to somehow save face, since at the same time we are told the planet is hotter than ever, the winters are getting worse.

>
> Instead of encircling the northern hemisphere in a sturdy and predictable fashion, this high-altitude wind takes a lazy looping path, zigzagging over the United States, the Atlantic and Europe. The southern parts of the loops get a bout of cold weather that becomes stalled in place.
>
> “Heat that is stored in the (Arctic) ocean can rapidly transfer to the atmosphere, and this affects the dynamics” of northern hemisphere weather patterns, said Coumou in a phone interview.

Obviously at some point, the people telling us global warming is going to make winters warmer, snow less frequent, and the frost line further north, obviously at some point they have to face the music.

> [@](#):
>
> “We’ve had a couple of winters (in Europe) where you’ve had rather shorter-term cold spells, of a duration of maybe 10, 20, 30 days… It’s been the same in the continental US and Canada where they’ve seen similar quite bizarre cold spells but of a relatively shorter period.”

That’s sort of a bullshit answer, but it does show how the story is changing.

> [@](#):
>
> Charles Greene, director of the Ocean Resources and Ecosystems Program at Cornell University in New York, said Arctic warming added a joker or two to the climate pack.
>
> “With the changes in sea ice, we set up a situation where we stack the deck, increasing the probability of these invasions of cold Arctic air,” he said.

The thing is, if you look at the long term trends, the last two decades (since 1992) show this trend for large parts of the NH to be having colder winters. And the winter snow amounts have been going up.

At the same time the spring and summer temperatures are rising, and the snow levels pretty much dropped off the charts.

So, assuming it actually is global warming causing this (and that story hasn’t changed), the brutal cold winters, and record snow amounts, are actually global warming. And I fucking hate cold. It makes me sick.

Because most people actually don’t know what is really happening (like the winter temperature trends for the last twenty years), they think bitching about the cold, and blaming it on global warming, seems insane.

If you think about it, since the summers and spring temperatures are still going up most places, but the yearly average is not, how can that be happening?

It’s due to the fall and winter temperatures falling. If you average it all out it seems almost flat, or falling slightly. But if you look at the seasons, you can see what is actually happening with the NH temperatures. Hotter spring and summers are being balanced with colder fall and winters, making it seem like globally there isn’t much warming at all.

(only in some areas, this does NOT mean the entire NH)

It’s ironic, especially since for decades they predicted warmer winters with less snow. OK not everyone, a few mavericks actually predicted this back in the eighties, but the consensus made sure that never appeared in the press.

With the right amount of propaganda, in a few years most people will actually believe the colder winters were predicted all along. In any case, nobody will ever admit to being wrong.

Damn you global warming. Damn you all to herll.

Oh sure you might say, that sounds like a load of horseshit. But even the SS is buying the global-warming-is-making-it-colder line.

> Well, the effects of global warming are all around us. **That harsh winter that we are experiencing, it is not proof that global warming is not happening, but rather serves as proof that it is indeed happening** , and even a bit faster than we might like to think. It also shows why the phrase “Climate Change” is a better term to describe the effects of man on his environment.
>
> Vladimir Petoukhov, a climate scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, has recently completed a study on the effect of climate change on winter. According to Petoukhov,

> These anomalies could triple the probability of cold winter extremes in Europe and northern Asia. Recent severe winters like last year’s or the one of 2005-06 do not conflict with the global warming picture, but rather supplement it.
> But how does a colder winter support the idea of a warming earth? It’s really simple when you look at the evidence.

>
> Another sustained cold streak in 2009-2010, gave Britain its coldest winter in 14 years, and wreaked transportation havoc across the continent. This year seems poised to deliver a repeat performance.
>
> At first glance, this flurry of frostiness would seem to be at odds with standard climate change scenarios in which Earth’s temperature steadily rises, possibly by as much as five or six degrees Celsius (9.0 to 10.8 degrees Fahrenheit) by 2100.
>
> Climate skeptics who question the gravity of global warming or that humans are to blame point to the deep chills as confirmation of their doubts.

So remember, the next time you re complaining about how fucking cold it is, or how unusual the snow is, remember, it’s global warming.
