> Fine, what are driving these perturbations? Venus? Mars? Jupiter? To what extent?

Indeed, although Jupiter’s gravity would not cause earthquakes or volcanoes, it does provide a slight nudge to our orbit, and over ten’s of millions of orbits can produce a significant change in climate. Another more important factor is that the Earth is not a perfect sphere, it’s center of gravity wobbles over the 24 hour cycle as well as the moon’s 28 point something day cycle. As to extent, welllll, that involves the n-body gravity solution … something that’s never been solved in the classical universe.

The sun is burning hotter, on average, as time passes. It’s certainly important to consider if we’re speaking to climate change over billions of years. I think that’s safely ignored if we’re sticking to the short time period of the post-Cambrian ‘era’. Far more important to climate of the past 100,000,000 years is the sun’s irregular and unpredictable output.

> [@For You](#):
>
> Climate change remediation is about more than dealing with fossil fuel use. Deforestation is another important concern, because forests tend to provide considerable carbon-sinkage. Ultimately, the things we should do to curb a growing greenhouse effect are the same things we ought to be doing anyway if we want to maintain a livable biosphere.

If and when we get these “climate change alarmists” to focus on mitigation efforts, they get our full cooperation. Here’s the rub, we want all these efforts to be put in place right now, but OUR reasons have nothing to do with global warming … and that so angers the alarmists so bad as to bring about **an entire Pit thread** just to condemn one of us.

… and they call us ignorant …

* * *

I’m sorry, we just suffered an ice storm that killed a few people … with global warming this won’t happen … maybe I’m just a softie, but if ice causes needless human suffering, I say be rid of it … belch that CO[sub]2[/sub], cook the arctic wastelands … global warming is a good thing, we’re at the dawn of a new era of prosperity blah blah blah

I’m not sure how that’s a “kick in the nuts.” Can you explain further, particularly in context of the remainder of your citation’s abstract?

> To the extent that water vapor concentrations increase in a warmer world, the climatic effects of the other greenhouse gases will be amplified. Models of the Earth’s climate indicate that this is an important positive feedback that increases the sensitivity of surface temperatures to carbon dioxide by nearly a factor of two when considered in isolation from other feedbacks, and possibly by as much as a factor of three or more when interactions with other feedbacks are considered.

Exactly. Researching whether 400 ppm CO[sub]2[/sub] in the atmosphere is really important, but we don’t know if it’s a problem yet, shame on anyone who says it is. Almost all the mitigation efforts proposed to curb CO[sub]2[/sub] emissions also curbs a lot of other nasty pollutants that we KNOW are a problem.

All the following quote posts are from other topics, some locked, most too old to post in with out getting hammered by a Mod (who, in case you are new, pretty much despise anything … wait, I can’t say that here … wait, yes I can, they seem to despise my activating any old thread), so anyhow, the following are from other topics. So don’t bitch about it. If I could fucking respond in the topic I would.

Bitches.

In regards to “Climategate”, from the other bitch about topic.

Nobody ever answered the questions, and the topic ended with a sad little GIGO post, which nobody bothered to respond to. Which is pretty common here.

Hahahahaha, “and live nicely”, cause nothing says safety and security like 20,000 nuclear reactors. Which would run out of fuel in less than a year. (with the current 400 working reactors we have less than a hundred years of affordable fuel, YMMV) We being the entire world.

Yep.

As a snow storm beared down on the east coast on Thursday, CBS This Morning sought to lay blame on global warming, with the headline on screen fretting: “Extreme Weather; Are These Kinds of Storms, Droughts Unprecedented?” Co-host Charlie Rose turned New York City College physics professor Michio Kaku and wondered: “What’s causing all this?”

Kaku proclaimed: “Well, the wacky weather could get even wackier. What we’re seeing is that the jet stream and the polar vortex are becoming unstable. Instability of historic proportions. We think it’s because of the gradual heating up of the North Pole. The North Pole is melting.” Rose interjected: “Global warming.”

Remember the “explanition” that a warm arctic has “caused” weak jet streams and that is why the polar vortex (and cold air) has “caused” the bad winters? It “allows” the cold to get out of the arctic. Global warming.

We don’t often get 18" of rain in four days, but it’s still completely normal. Atlanta doesn’t often get snow, but it’s as normal as Sochi having 60ºF days in February. 175 mph winds in South Florida is extreme, but completely normal, happens on a regular basis. Pyroclastic flows in Seattle happen, it’s normal. The track of [Hurricane Sandy](http://www.weather.gov/okx/HurricaneSandy) was crazy … crazier still was how well the forecast models predicted it … **five damn days in advance** … if the numerical models predicted it, it must be normal.

Extreme doesn’t mean abnormal in all cases. Just because something hasn’t happened in the past 150 years doesn’t make it unusual.

That meteor impact 65 million years ago is as normal as normal can be.
