The Deep Ocean Hypothesis is remotely plausible; my problem with it is that it’s an epicycle. i.e. it’s an ad hoc patch added on to a hypothesis after the fact in order to avoid discarding the privileged part of the hypothesis. Rather than admit that they wildly overestimated expected warming, the warmists claim that there’s lots of extra heat hidden deep in the ocean like some communist hiding under the bed.
From the caption: “Human forcing agents include increases in greenhouse gases and aerosols” and “the Sun is the only major natural factor with a long-term effect on climate.” You’ll note on the graph that Human activities are the top seven bars, and natural causes is just one bar … the net being the bottom bar.
Let me explain what a “Watt per square meter” is. This means one Joule of energy per second per each and every square meter on the Earth’s surface, a truly astronomical number. At this 1.6 W m[sup]-2[/sup] value, it would only take 8 or 9 months and the atmosphere’s temperature would stop increasing, because at 100ºC the energy would be used to boil off the oceans.
And I’m not supposed to think you’re an alarmist?
First off, the blue line is profoundly non-linear, it’s not even a function. Certainly if you “cherry-pick” the last 50 years of data, you can fit a straight line in … what I’m saying is this straight red line fails during the first 50 years of data (1880-1930), a sine wave is the better fit. Look at the ice core data, it’s not a straight line, it’s a sine wave, duh.
So, let me get this straight … you don’t see the 1998 value as being the second highest point on the graph, slightly below the 2008 value?
Thank you for the link to Wiki, that clearly shows the rate of energy increase in the ocean is constant, whereas the atmosphere is showing a decreasing rate. That violates the First Law of Thermodynamics.
That’s the source of the claim about ocean heat content. No point, just a long scientific paper. The problems with the theory are obvious if you read it.
However, it looks like a more realistic mechanism of heat transfer has finally come to light.
Yuppers, the ocean can hide a whole mess of heat, that’s for sure. I read through a few of the more recent papers on this and scientists are still trying to figure out how to measure the average oceanic temperature. We’re still some ways off from this most noble goal it seems.
Oh great. Now the media is saying the great polar vortex is returning in July to the US, or at least part of it. I mean, global warming is returning.
It’s really difficult to get people on board with panic and urgency when you have record cold summer temps. But I’m sure it will be blamed on global warming somehow. So fuck you global warming. I’m sick of this shit.
Are you new or something? Don’t you realize the simple truth? Since global warming is a fact, is happening, no doubt at all, then whatever happens is because of global warming. So record cold temperatures are actually global warming. Just like record cold winters. And record warm winters, and record heat waves, it’s all global warming.
It’s not just the US and Chicago of course. Global warming is causing more cold and ice in Antarctica as well. Even as the temperature trend drops, and sea ice increases to record amounts, it’s global warming causing it.
