I'm sick of this Global Warming!

So what?

nm

Coast guard ships come to the rescue of freighters trapped in ice on Lake Superior.

A freighter trapped in ice is shown in this aerial photo near Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior northwest of Sault Ste. Marie

I am so sick of this global warming

What part of “average” do you not comprehend?

What part of “trolling” don’t you comprehend?

Yeah, there’s that… Maybe he’s trying for the Championship, the Olympics of Stupidity. But the competition is rough around here. Frankly, I don’t give him better than an outside chance at the Bronze.

This actually is an example of warming.
The Soo Locks used to open in April, but opening day was moved up to March 24 in 2012 as the ice broke up earlier each year. Field ice is always an issue near Whitefish Bay through May, but the boats would not be in the ice if the locks had not already opened.

Pretty ignorant attempt at sarcasm.

Now there is a perfect example of how everything is global warming. (I am aware that the meaning of that sentence is unclear, stay with me)

Just that one sentence response can seem to have multiple meanings. (because it can) If you believe everything that happens now is influenced by global warming (Trenberth’s view), it makes perfect sense to think the early opening of the locks, as well as the late sea ice, both are due to global warming. Low ice, warming. Record high ice, warming.

That same simgel sentence can also mean “there is some idiot using record cold and ice to say it means global warming”, which is the complete opposite meaning. So of course it’s confusing. But even if I type out a long science based post with sources, and careful wording, the effect will be exactly the same.

IT WON’T MATTER AT ALL.

In fact, the true believer won’t even read it, much less learn anything.

This is from 2009.

The story is based on the 2007 IPCC report.

That’s the story heard all over the world, in 2009, but also in the years before that. From NASA scientist, and of course many others.

The only response in the thread was from GIGO, who in unintentional riony,

That’s not something made up, it wasn’t considered trolling when it was published, and it was reported with no skepticism or fact checking at all in 2009. Remember, that same 2007 IPCC report falsely claimed that the entire water supply for over a billion people would be gone by 2035.

Exactly. When somebody takes a weather event, and then claims it is evidence of global climate change, it’s like they are some sort of idiot.

As I said in response to that, saying “it’s unusually cold so it means global warming” is even worse.

See? There is the argument that “no matter what happens it means the globe is warming up”. (I’m not picking on you, many people say the same stupid shit)

So you understand exactly how I feel about anyone who is stupid, and tries to say stupid shit. My method of mockery is just a few levels above you.

See? The confusion happens for an obvious reason. Often what I say is almost excactly what some real expert, or media outlet, is actually saying. In essence, “there was record cold and ic, so it’s global warming”. Or "the heaviest snowfalls occur with surface temperatures from about 28°F to 32°F – just below the freezing point.", or even worse, “Consequently, deniers of climate change have used recent snow dumps to cast doubt on a warming climate from human influences. Yet they could not be more wrong.” There is no doubt about it, we now have experts claiming record cold and snow is evidence of global warming.

It sounds sarcastic, because it sounds insane. So when I repeate some insane sounding shit, and you think I am saying it, it’s quite easy to think, “God what an ignorant fuckhead, does he really believe this stupid shit? Does he really think record cold and ice means global warming? How can he be that stupid?”

Because in essence there is no difference between what the media, and the experts publish, and the awful fucking crap like “… the increasing trend in extreme precipitation events is consistent with global warming. And this will lead to increased snowstorms in certain, colder regions.” What the fuck? “record snowfall neither proves nor disproves global warming.”

The problem is that irony is mixed with extreme sarcasm, it’s like an irony cake with sarcasm icing, and a side dish of giving back the same level of insipid insults your average climate alarmists uses all the time.

The accusation of trolling is dependent on “belief”, in that we consider the belief system of a person making a statement. So if we decide tomndebb actually believes what he writes,

, it’s not trolling, it’s just extreme ignorance. But how to tell? And what if his point is actually something other than “lots of ice is global warming happening”? Then the failing is of course on the reader, who took him at his word.

What he actually means is the ice situation was caused by people, and the people did what they did because previously it was warmer (2012) so they started shipping earlier. Or something like that.

So jumping to a conclusion, and responding as an insulting fuckbag, just means you don’t learn anything. I’m fascinated by this knowledge. What tomndebb is trying to say about the ice situation there.

Certainly man has a tendency to jump tp conclusions. It’s a major problem.

Says the bullheaded git who has been engaged in cherry picking in not only this entire thread but others on the subject as well.

Good time for it.

With more warming, cherry season will begin in earnest in April instead of May or June.

Piffle.

You got caught (once again) trying to make a dumb sarcastic remark that you thought would demonstrate that global warming was not real.
I pointed out that your attempt was just stupid, based on an ignorance of facts.
You will note that I said nothing about “global” anything, li miting my observations solely to the conditions at the Eastern end of Lake Superior. You are the one who is falsely trying to turn my statement into an “everything proves global warming” claim when I posted nothing of the sort.

Just more straw man arguments that you think are impressive because you couch it in a wall of text.

This has to be the longest-running (and longest-allowed-to-continue) troll thread in the history of the Dope, right? We need our board historian. Guin, are you out there?

Why would you lie about something like that?

source
Due to an unusually warm winter, the locks were opened 12 hours early in 2012

Why do alarmists think telling lies is going to make them seem right?

How ironic.

In 2011 they opened March 25th: http://www.upnorthlive.com/news/story.aspx?id=597454#.VSfrr5O1egQ

The 2006 Coast Guard manual for the river gives March 25th as the opening date. http://www.uscg.mil/d9/sectSaultSteMarie/docs/VTS/User%20Man.pdf

When did they open in April? FXM is a troll, but fair is fair, if you made a mistake or you were just really clumsy about communicating that the locks used to open in April back some time in the previous century, you ought to acknowledge that.

I wouldn’t and didn’t. When looking for a early date for the Soo opening, the earliest I found was an article that noted that it opened “early” on March 24. Since then, I have found other articles dating as early as the late 1990s, indicating that the locks opened on March 25, 26, or 26. However, when I was working on the lakes, in the early 1970s, the Soo did not open before April. There were attempts to keep is open later and later into January, with one mostly unsuccessful effort to keep it open for twelve months, but the ice field in Whitefish Bay, backing out into Eastern Superior, rendered such efforts futile, with the effective opening remaining April until warming conditions on the lake made it possible to open earlier.

Counting down until FXM cherry picks the fact that you typed 26 twice in order to ignore the rest of your post…

I’m sure that no previous troll has posted 1,460 times in a single thread.

35.5% of the posts in an 83-page thread? Fuuuuck. That’s some dedication. Or something.

I like 26.

A lot of cumstains on the floor.
