Going back to the antibiotics discussion, I’m fairly sure that the reason for (possibly) reduced efficacy is that being on a course of antibiotics upsets a great lot of tummies. Vomiting and diarrhea are _not_ conducive to keeping a bcp in the stomach long enough for full absorption. And frankly, I’ve NEVER taken an antibiotic that didn’t give me the shits. Some are worse than others, but they all do it. A lady I used to work with was on a hormone patch after her hysterectomy (I don’t know if it was the same patch, or more like a transdermal Premarin, or what) and she absolutely hated it. The adhesive itched after a couple of day, and she always had a ring of fuzz around the patch itself, where the adhesive had picked up lint from her underwear. She was NOT pleased with this, nor with the sticky area left when she removed a patch. The adhesive took a few days to wash off, even with vigorous scrubbing, leaving her sore as well as sticky and covered in lint from yesterday’s undies. ---

I’d like to meet the woman who uses the birth control patch, the Nicoderm patch, that weight loss patch, and the patch for motion sickness. Like having sex with a quilt. ---

My therapist has the patch, and really likes it. It wasn’t recommended for me, because of weight problems. I really wanted the Nuvaring, but my MD said he wasn’t prescribing it yet, because he hadn’t yet had an ‘inservice’ on it (apparently, and inservice is where someone from the drug company comes and gives you all the details on the thing). And here I was thinking that if you need a motion sickness patch for sex, you need to grow up and quit doing it in the back of the car! I’m finding all of these birth control innovations fascinating, btw. I’ve never used the stuff at all, so this is all new to me. ---

I use the patch, and at times it can be a problem. You really have to make sure you put it in a good place. That won’t be affected by a lot of movement. Usually on my butt is good, but then the fuzz is a problem. To me it’s better than the pill. I’ll have to research some other methods for something better. But If I put the patch in a good place that doesn’t squish up a lot then I do fine. Jenny\* ---

My cousin had a hysterectomy and she’s on the patch. She likes it, and as far as I know, hasn’t had a problem with the sticking. ---
