"I'm the Doctor." "Doctor who?"

Tom Baker was The Doctor for me until Tennant came along, and now it’s a draw. To me, Tennant’s incarnation works as portraying the Doctor as the same person Tom Baker was playing, with his sense of playful wonder and childlike delight, but now darkened and changed by the Time War and the loss of Galifrey.

So did Richard Dawkins - they were introduced by Douglas Adams.

Sorry, no. I don’t buy this. Even if BBC decides to make it cannon, I’m ignoring it.

Considerably more than talk.

On his mother’s side. Boy, I remember all the speculation, near the end of the Virgin books, around the time of Lungbarrow, when the biggest theory was that Leela was the Doctor’s mother. I never did quite wrap my head around the Loom and the Other.

Wow, it’s astonishing how little enthusiasm there is for Paul McGann.

Come on now! He’s McGann! The Eighth Doctor! And “8” sideways is the symbol for INFINITY oh yeah! Infinitely, positively, totally canonical McGann! Stepped out o the TARDIS and BOOM he’s McGann! Keeps the Master in a box! Oh yeah! Hanging with fey-voiced Daleks! Uh huh! He’s half-American on his mother’s side! Made for Americans! Produced by Americans! Filmed probably somewhere in Canada! AND IT’S ABOUT TIME! McGann! Hell yes! Give it up for him! You know you want to! McGann! A man! A plan! A canal! McGann! Yeah! Woo! Rockin’ this town with McGann! Damn straight! Can I get a witness! McGann! Hallelujah! Can you feel the power! McGann! He lifts you up where you belong! Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high! Whoooah! McGann! He’s McGaaaa-an, he’s McGann, he’s McGaaaa-an, he’s Mcgann!

I like McGann. I wish I could see more of him. I’m glad he got to finish Shada, even if it was only semi-animated. I just don’t buy the half-human bit.

Has anyone else ever seen the patched-together VHS version of Shada? The one with Tom Baker explaining the plot of all the unfilmed scenes? I rented it from Blockbuster once and have never been able to find it again. TB was wonderful in it.

I liked McGann, too. He does a great job on the audios, actually.

Yeah, I’ve got the VHS Shada here somewhere.

Peter Davison was Tennant’s “doctor” too, apparently. I’m sure I’ve read it in an interview (but, of course, I can’t find a cite) and it’s referenced ‘citation needed’ in the Wiki page for ‘Time Crash’.

Peter Davison is my “Tristan Farnon”. I was too old by the time he played the Doctor.

Actually, David Tennant’s first Doctor was Tom Baker, and he lists him as his favourite for that reason. But I think when he said “You’re my Doctor” to Peter Davison in “Time Crash”, it was more about personality similarities and characterisation inspiration (even within canon).

At least, that’s how I interpreted it.

Tennant asked for Davison to be the other Doctor in Time Crash (last answer in the first column in here and said that both Baker and Davison were ‘his’ doctors halfway down the first column here. He also claims that he takes part of his performance from both of them, which is what Rhiannon8404 noticed.

Whatever article I read may well have nicked their material from here or another interview. It was about the time of Time Crash’s screening, so they probably focussed on that connection.

I love how Davison says that his Doctor was Troughton. Later in the article he says that Tennant’s Doctor reminds him of Troughton. Aw.

There’s possibly some wee tyke out there right now, watching the series and planning their acting career to the point where they can take over the role.
