I’m 32 and male. Some of us are probably just too socially inept to have any hope for being married. I came to this conclusion about six years ago when I could never get past the first date with anyone I met. Before then I used to get down about myself not being married, but I have since changed my feelings about it especially after seeing what several of my friends have been trough with their wives or girlfriends. ---

You’d be surprised how things could change. I just had lunch with a friend visiting from Milwaukee (A few Dopers met him during ChiDope, actually). When we lived together for two years, I think he had maybe one date. In two years. Over lunch he said to me that his love life had been slowing down lately and he hadn’t had a date in three weeks. That sent me into gales of laughter. For him, a change of locale was all that was needed. As he noted “In Ann Arbor I was just another geek with an advanced degree. In Milwaukee, I’m a catch!” Oh, and for you ladies out there, I can personally vouche for Res’ worth as an eligible bachelor. ---

I am tired of it as well, however, I also do not want to settle for whoever is nearby. I have known some who get married because they are a certain age or so they can have kids and live the “American Dream”. While it can work out well, I personally feel that is the wrong reason to get hitched. While I would like to get married, I am prepared to wait for the “right” woman. I just hope it happens while I am young enough to fully enjoy it.
