But on the bright side you are closer to being retired. Being retired has been pretty much the high point of my life so far. If you didn’t have to be so old it would be perfect. ---

When I was a high-school senior, I knew a girl named Juli. I wasn’t close to her, but she was nice. Two years after we graduated–this incident occurred about the time Neil Armstrong walked on the moon–she and a boyfriend were riding a motorcycle just outside of Ensenada, Mexico. A truck came from the opposite direction and… Juli never worried about reaching 35. :(☹ ---

I always looked forward to being 35 when I was younger because it’s about the perfect age, old enough to be considered a mature adult, but not so old that your body is literally falling apart. I didn’t mind being 35 a bit, but the thing that sucks is you can’t freeze your age right there. A decade later, when your age starts showing, people in their 20s start calling you “sir” and asking if you qualify for the senior discount. ---

Around the time I turned 35, I realized that we are all like a carton of milk with an expiration date. Things slowly start to get less and less fresh, and then we expire. Not a pleasant thought. Best to distract ourselves with whatever is able to distract us from these realities. On the bright side, when you’re 70, you’ll think “Oh my god, what I wouldn’t give to be 35 again!” When you’re 70 it would take a miracle to make you 35 again. Now, you’re already 35, no miracles needed, so it’s all good 🙂 ---

Well, now it’s more like five minutes. I’m 38. Turning 40 in a couple of years doesn’t bother me and 35 didn’t bother me. When I turned 30 it was pretty bad. That was a big line for me. I wasn’t a young adult anymore; simply an adult. I look at my forties as a time where I am still young in the scheme of life and can still be considered reasonably part of the “in” generation. Turning 50 doesn’t seem very fun, though. From hearing the older posters and most older people in general, I do look forward to the time in life where you put the petty bullshit aside and simply be satisfied with your life, the good and the bad. Younger people seem to chase their tails trying to change the world. When you get older you concede that it didn’t happen, but you gave it a hell of a try. ---

The National Association of Realtors political lobby and marketing team have done a terrific job the past 30 years. Among my friends (and many Millenials) it’s really not much of a priority. I personally find the idea of a “starter” home from which one graduates to the next level pretty bizarre. ---

The early-to-mid 30’s, you can actually consider yourself young in a precious sort of way.
